    Post Doctoral Fellowship

    About The Job

    The CSIR has a temporary vacancy for a Post-doctoral Fellowship in the Bioengineering and Integrated research group within the Next Generation Health Cluster. The incumbent will be responsible for.developing genome engineered stem cell models of disease with an emphasis on commercial applications towards addressing adverse drugs reactions. This position is full-time and based in Pretoria, South Africa.

    Key Responsibilities

    • Support novel synthetic biology initiatives within the group;

    • Collaborate with CSIR and external scientists to develop advanced cellular assays deepening our expertise in cellular genome engineering;

    • Take initiative in running additional synthetic biology programmes supporting other research group leaders within the Synthetic Biology Emerging Research Area ;

    • Manage resource allocation and project delivery on budget and on time;

    • Write proposals to attract research funding;

    • Evaluate interim results and compile reports and scientific publications; and

    • Present the research data at national and international meetings and conferences.

    Qualifications, Skills And Experience

    • A Doctoral degree in molecular biology, cell biology, bioinformatics or a related field and at least two years experience in a relevant synthetic biology area, with relevant scientific publications with the following key skills:

      • Cellular engineering – specific expertise in the use of CRISPR in induced pluripotent stem cells

      • Molecular biology techniques

    • Preference will be given to applicants with international peer-reviewed publications;

    • Commitment to learning, exploring, innovating, working and developing new skills;

    • Share and synergize expertise with other members of the group;

    • Problem solving skills;

    • Teamwork and excellent interpersonal and communication skills (written and spoken); and

    • Enthusiasm, self-motivation and a desire to contribute to the overall aims of the research group.
