In this position you will be part of our Process and Mechanical Engineering team, contributing to exciting projects across South Africa and throughout Africa. This role provides an excellent opportunity to collaborate with other engineering disciplines – including control and instrumentation, electrical, civil, and structural – on multi-disciplinary projects within the oil & gas (petrochemical) and mining sectors.
Role responsibilities
Process scope definition and technology selection via the compilation of a Process Design Basis and Criteria.
Compilation of process flow diagrams along with associated mass and energy balance calculations, piping and instrumentation diagrams and all associated design activities or process deliverables.
Specification of process attributes for equipment through the compilation of process datasheets (or process input to general datasheets), and instrumentation by compilation of instrument datasheets which also includes control, on/off and safety valves by compilation of valve datasheets.
Compilation of process description, control philosophy, process line lists, equipment lists, instrumentation schedules, valve schedules (control, on/off and safety).
Liaising with other discipline engineers to ensure designs conform to process requirements and find appropriate process solutions to meet needs of each design discipline.
Performing technical reports writing on specific projects relating to Manufacturing, Oil and Gas (Petrochemical), Water and Wastewater Treatment and Biogas.
Be proactive and able to talk to clients and canvass for work.
Participate in tendering for new work including proposal write-up, costing and schedules.
Work independently and interact well within a group. Be able to plan, manage and deliver projects as part of a larger engineering team.
Minimum requirements
BEng, BSc, MEng, or MSc in Chemical Engineering and 3-4+ years’ experience with a minimum of 1 years in project management or project engineering.
Pr.Eng. registration with ECSA to start or be in progress.
Familiar with commonly used process engineering standards and codes including but not limited to API, NFPA, ASME, GPS as well as commonly used process engineering software.
Proficiency in MS Office (Excel and Word).
Working knowledge of Aspen Plus, Aspen Hysys and hydraulic simulation software (e.g. Flownex).
Prior experience in the petrochemical industry, with some additional experience in gas (LNG/CNG/LPG), manufacturing & mining (including practical experience) would be a bonus.
Demonstrated ability to work with cross-functional teams to achieve project results within required timeframes.
Experience in typical process engineering safety analyses, e.g. HAZOP workshops, HAC analysis, etc.
