    Production Manager - Press Department

    Job Advert Summary    

    • We are seeking a results-driven and experienced Production Manager to lead our Press Department operations. The successful candidate will be responsible for planning, coordinating, and managing all production activities to ensure efficiency, quality, safety, and on-time delivery of products.

    Minimum Requirements    

    • NQF Level 6
    • 3 Year Degree / Advanced Diploma in Production Management
    • 5 years’ experience in Operational Management
    • 3 years’ experience in a management role
    • Steel / engineering industry experience would be advantageous
    • Code EB; Articulated motor vehicle license

    Duties and Responsibilities    
    Financial Management

    • Provide input into annual budget planning process and submit to line management for approval. Support identification, implementation, and development of processes to optimise cost efficiency.
    • Effectively manage the branch operational areas and its objectives in line with approved budgets (operational, capex and labour).

    Stakeholder Relations

    • Build, support and maintain healthy, diverse internal and external relationships to ensure achievement of organisational goals. Implement remedial actions where required.
    • Provide specialised technical / professional support to internal and external stakeholders to ensure achievement of functional and organisational objectives.

    People Management

    • Accountable for the Branch Production department’s performance.
    • Conduct workforce planning to ensure the Branch Production department is suitably staffed to meet strategic functional objectives.
    • Implement and manage people development processes such as performance management, succession planning and talent management to meet the department’s performance standards.
    • Agree and implement own and sub-ordinates' development plans.
    • Develop and coach team members and encourage knowledge transfer.
    • Mentor subordinates once removed.
    • Analyse trends and identify competence training gaps and action.
    • Forecast learning requirements and pipelines related to legislative and industry changes.
    • Identify and respond to potential/current Employee Relations matters and action accordingly.

    Governance, Compliance and Risk Management

    • Contribute to the development and continuous improvement of organisational standards, policies, and procedures within span of control and monitor implementation to ensure full compliance.
    • Monitor and ensure adherence to statutory regulations, legislation, organisational standards, policies, and procedures.
    • Ensure remedial actions is implemented timeously to address non-conformances.
    • Ensure effective and regular communication of new statutory regulations, legislation, organisational standards, policies, and procedures to ensure full awareness amongst employees and contractors.
    • Take responsibility for the quality policies and procedures.
    • Ensure compliance to the Macsteel Group quality objectives and ensure that the Business Unit / Branch fully complies with all relevant legislation.
    • Approve remedial actions timeously to address non-conformances.

    Strategy

    • Implement Branch goals applicable to area of responsibility as derived from business plan into clear direction, implement effectively and efficiently and ensure that appropriate remedial actions are taken.
    • Obtain, check, and refine information. Collate and submit reports. Run data exception reports and take corrective action.
    • Provide input into the development of the business plan. Analyse business plans, develop and implement functional plans.
    • Review and integrate functional plans in light of strategic intent to accomplish long term goals and achieve balance between functions and utilisation of resources.

    Production Management

    • Monitor and ensure effective equipment utilisation, efficiencies, yield, and reliability.
    • Manage acceptable levels of consumables.
    • Evaluate and manage optimum inventory levels within Branch, implement and control the production schedule.
    • Work out and implement standard operating procedures for production.
    • Estimate production costs.

    Asset Management

    • Manage and evaluate assets. Recommend remedial action when required.
    • Manage and maintain asset registers.
    • Manage the execution of breakdowns- and preventative maintenance schedules.
