    Professional Technologist (Customer Services) - eThekwini

    Job Purpose    

    • To provide a customer service within the eThekwini Municipality area of responsibility by ensuring that the meter reading, revenue collection and technical functions are managed to ensure that nontechnical losses on the distribution network are kept to a minimum as well as financial viability of the organization. To provide a technical advice service to the eThekwini Electricity existing and new customers as well as to the electrical contracting industry/consultants. Act as a liaison on behalf of the customer between the various sections of eThekwini Electricity to ensure that the process for connections of supplies is not delayed and problems pertaining are resolved.

    Key Responsibility Areas    

    • Active support and promotion of Safety and accident prevention in the workplace. Appointment in terms of the Occupational Health and Safety Act (1993) as directed.
    • Managing the selection and allocation of contractors by ensuring that all work is carried out in terms of the department’s code of practice, financial regulations and OHS Act.
    • Managing the training of all staff, contractors and consultants with regards to quality, standards, regulations and documentation.
    • Preparation of section’s financial estimates for capital and operating budgets and control expenditure within the approved budgets.
    • Controls outcomes associated with utilization, productivity and performance of personnel within the section.
    • Provide input in the drafting of tender specifications and the adjudication.
    • Managing the vehicle utilization.
    • Provide input in the drafting and monitor the implementation of policies, procedures and Codes of Practice applicable to customer services.
    • Initiate and co-ordinate the implementation of new technological developments in Customer Services.
    • Undertakes the following technical functions.
    • To provide general tariff and technical advice in respect of various installations.
    • Management and control of customer services centres.
    • Represent eThekwini Municipality at various forums relating to customer services.
    • Manage administrative functions in accordance with the relevant standards and regulations.

    Essential Requirements    

    • Bachelor of Technology (NQF Level 7) in Electrical Engineering- Heavy Current.
    • Registration as a Professional Technologist (Pr. Technologist) with the Engineering Council of South Africa (ECSA).
    • Valid motor vehicle driving license.
    • 3 Years relevant post qualification experience.
