Professor / Associate Professor (Permanent; with 5 Year term as Director: SLCA) at University of the Western Cape/Universiteit van Wes-Kaapland

The successful incumbent will be responsible for the following key performance areas:

• Leadership of the SLCA including the coordination of all outreach teacher professional development activities;
• As a leader of the SLCA, he/she is expected to drive SLCA programmes as outlined in the SLCA constitution and to facilitate its’ objectives in consultation with SSME and appropriate Faculty committees; 
• He/she will work closely with UWC, Faculty of Education, academic and support staff members, school principals, Education Departments (Ministries), teachers and designated stakeholders towards fulfilment of the aims and objectives of the SLCA;
• He/she will be expected to coordinate supervision of higher degrees students on theses related to outreach activities in the field of Science Education;
• He/she will ensure good governance and financial practice and be accountable for the reporting to funders, SSME, the Faculty Board, including an audited yearly financial report; 
• He/she will be responsible for setting and measuring the key performance indicators of his/her team members.

Minimum Requirements

Minimum Requirements (for Professor level)

• A PhD or equivalent, in the field of  Science Education
• A strong academic record, with extensive experience in facilitating learning and teaching at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels in the field of Science Education
• A strong track record of quality academic research, peer reviewed publications and conference presentations relevant to Science Education
• A record of successful postgraduate supervision
• Evidence of expertise, national standing, and definite international presence in his/her discipline.
• Leadership experience at both departmental and faculty levels
• The integration of community engagement with learning and teaching and/or research
• Experience in generating funding / research grants.
• The ability to commit to, and serve a 5-Year term as Director of the SLCA 

Minimum Requirements (for Associate Professor level)

• A PhD or equivalent, in the field of Science Education
• A strong academic record, with demonstrated experience in facilitating learning and teaching at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels in the field of Science Education
• A track record of quality academic research, peer reviewed publications and conference presentations relevant to Science Education
• A record of successful postgraduate supervision
• Evidence of expertise and national standing  in his/her discipline.
• Leadership experience at departmental and faculty levels
• The integration of community engagement with learning and teaching and/or research
• Experience in generating funding / research grants
• The ability to commit to, and serve a 5-Year term as Director of the SLCA

Recommendation for Professor level (in addition to the above min. requirements)

• A NRF rating would be considered an added advantage
