    Professor/Associate Professor: Psychology - Health Sciences

    CORE PURPOSE OF JOB

    • To facilitate learning, teaching and research with under- and post-graduate psychology students.
    • To contribute specifically within the area of Counselling and Clinical Psychology, both to student development and to the Department itself.
    • To process and administer all aspects in the area of Counselling and Clinical Psychology within the Department.

    KEY PERFORMANCE AREAS

    • Leadership in the facilitation of academic development,
    • Leadership in facilitating learning, including e-learning,
    • Development, revision and evaluation of learning, teaching and support materials,
    • Provision of teaching, mentoring and clinical supervision,
    • Provision of research supervision at post-graduate and doctoral levels,
    • Developing and managing individual and group research,
    • Carry out departmental and faculty administrative and management duties and
    • Involvement in community engagement.

    CORE COMPETENCIES

    • Expert knowledge and grounding in Counselling and Clinical Psychology.
    • Extensive experience in the facilitation of learning and teaching at under- and post-graduate levels.
    • Sound IT knowledge and expertise in technology for blended learning.
    • Clinical and research supervision of Honours, Masters and Doctoral students.
    • Knowledge of program and curriculum development.
    • Experience in preparation of publications for journals and/or the preparation of presentations/papers for national and international conferences.

     
    MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

    Qualifications

    • Associate Professor-Doctoral degree in Psychology

    Registration

    • A minimum of three years’ registration as a Counselling or Clinical Psychologist with the Professional Board for Psychology of the Health Professions Council of South Africa

    Experience

    • 3-7 years relevant work experience in an academic environment

    Research and publications

    • Conducts own research in the discipline of psychology.
    • Track record of publications in accredited national and international journals.
    • Track record of presentations in national and international conferences.
    • Track record of experience in research, development and completed supervision of masters research projects and at least co-supervision of one completed doctoral research project.

    Learning and Teaching

    • Demonstrated involvement in coordinating learning and teaching activities in undergraduate and post graduate programmes in Psychology.
    • Demonstrated involvement in programme or curriculum development in Psychology.
    • Emergent national reputation in the profession of Psychology.

    • Doctoral degree in Psychology

    Registration

    • Minimum of three years’ registration as a Counselling or Clinical Psychologist with the Professional Board for Psychology of the Health Professions Council of South Africa.

    Experience

    • 4-7 years relevant work experience at Associate Professor leve.l

    Research and publications

    • Established researcher in the discipline of psychology.
    • Track record of publications in accredited national and international journals.
    • Track record of presentations in national and international conferences.
    • Track record of experience in research, development and completed supervision of masters research projects and doctoral research projects.

    Learning and Teaching

    • Demonstrated leadership in coordinating learning and teaching activities in undergraduate and post graduate programmes in psychology.
    • Demonstrated leadership in programme or curriculum development in psychology.
    • National and some international recognition for teaching excellence and scholarship.
    • Has a national and international reputation in the profession of psychology.
