    Project Engineering Manager (PrEM)

    Gibela Rail invites suitably qualified candidates to apply for the Project Engineering Manager to be based in Nigel. The role reports to the Head of Engineering.

    Purpose of the Job
    Manage Engineering activities Infront of the project team to meet the Quality, Cost and Delivery (QCD) commitments.
    Mobility: The role does require minimal travel to Customers (project meetings), Suppliers, other Gibela Sites; whenever required operationally. Occasionally expected to travel to other Alstom Sites Worldwide.

    Responsibilities

    • Accountable for the technical decisions taken with the team.
    • Project (or R&D or Sustaining) Engineering activities
    • Delivering Engineering Work Package in compliance with the Engineering QCD commitment
    • Representing Engineering among project core team and manage interfaces with PrXMs and other PrEMs of Leading/Participating Units
    • Representing Gibela Project Engineering:
    • Provide global view of design progress, issues and risks to the customers.
    • Delegate detailed technical discussions to the relevant stakeholders to provide them with Minutes of Meeting
    • Ensures that the inputs/outputs and design reviews are in on time with the right quality levels
    • Providing regular reporting and performance analysis (PrEM cockpit)
    • Managing functionally the project engineering core team (TxEs, RAMS, CV) and their commitment for the project
    • Providing to workload manager regular updates on project engineering firm workload including forecasted internal and external change orders, based on inputs from Métiers team
    • Escalating to Métiers/HoD staffing issues (under-staffing, competences, subcontracting problems, under performance…)
    • Follow and update baseline on a regular basis, validate Variation Orders demands (external or internal) requested by project, quotes them with involvement from metiers, and updates engineering work package accordingly and ensure proper traceability
    • Approve, as a member of CCB, applicable modifications on product, and updates QCD accordingly. TSE remains responsible for applicable configuration
    • Manage the Global Scheduling Convergence, with support of Engineering Planning Manager
    • Manage the Operational Quality in order to improve Project execution, with support of Engineering Quality Manager
    • Plan necessary Design Reviews, check mandatory attendees are invited, makes sure they are done on-time and issues are opened in ESLI
    • Animate Engineering issues of Engineering Single List of Issues and is responsible for having C1/C2 issues closed in time
    • Responsible for engineering points within DFQ Gate Review checklists, provides to PM/SSM/PrEM Manager his prognostic and puts in place necessary actions to mitigate a No Go risk

    Risks & Savings

    • Manage Engineering risks mitigation and savings action plans
    • Provides to PM/SSM all inputs to update RAMP/SAMP
    • Update Engineering workpackage accordingly
    • Manage, communicate and escalate on critical paths linked to Engineering: t o Métiers Managers / PrEM Manager / Head of Engineering for internal Engineering issues and t o PM/SSM when other entities are implicated

    Requirements

    • BSc/B.Eng Degree (Electrical, Electronics, Mechanical, Automotive, Mechatronics, System) or Equivalent Engineering Degrees
    • Post Graduate Qualification on Management/Leadership Qualification (minimum NQF7) will be an advantage
    • Registered or Registerable (in less than 1 year) as a Professional Engineer with ECSA will be an advantage

    Experience

    • Minimum 3+ years’ experience on product development in a similar environment
    • Previous people management experience
    • Proven knowledge on Engineering tasks (engineering design processes, engineering drawings and interpretation software documentations)
    • General understanding of Project Management
    • Previous experience in the application of Engineering Standards
    • Working knowledge on application of Product Safety rules
    • Problem-solving techniques (8D, Ishikawa, 5 whys, Quick Response Quality Control (QRQC)
    • Good Communications and interpersonal skills
    • Customer and results focus
    • Ability to make decisions/sense of urgency
    • Structured and organised with hands-on approach
