    Retail Mass: Head: Human Capital

    Who are we?

    • Sanlam Developing Markets (SDM) (a wholly-owned subsidiary of Sanlam Life Limited) is one of the top financial services providers in the South African entry-level and emerging middle market. It aims to understand the unique requirements of clients and offers a wide range of simple and affordable financial solutions that cover needs such as funeral insurance, savings for education, life cover and personal accident plans. In terms of the Sanlam Group Governance Policy, SDM is managed by the SA Retail Mass cluster, which is part of the Sanlam Life and Savings cluster within the Sanlam Group. There are four businesses within the SA Retail Mass cluster, namely; Group Benefits, Individual Life, Safrican Insurance and African Rainbow Life.

    What will you do?
    The Head of Human Capital plays an integral role on the Retail Mass leadership team in executing the people agenda.

    What will make you successful in this role?

    • Partners with the Retail Mass leadership team on all matters related to people, culture and transformation; providing sound people advice, insight and guidance. 
    • Development of an aligned, professional and proactive Human Capital team who deliver against the agreed HC and business deliverables.  Provide mentoring and coaching support to the current HC team to enable learning and growth.
    • Responsible for the effective management and delivery of quality human practices and processes including recruitment, total reward, learning and development, talent management, employee assistance, and performance management. 
    • Driving Talent Management practices across the Retail Mass business and driving key Talent Acquisition strategies focusing on specific competencies and skills in the fields of actuarial, digital, sales and accounting
    • Delivery and execution on the transformation agenda – development of plans and support to the leadership in ensuring Retail Mass is experienced as a place of diversity and inclusivity
    • Support and drive, together with the Retail Mass leadership team, a culture of delivery and execution across the business  
    • Management of key stakeholder relationships, internally and externally.  (Across the cluster, the broader Group, key external service providers, industry peers)

    Qualification and Experience

    • Relevant tertiary qualification.
    • Post graduate qualification will be advantageous e.g. Honours, Masters in Organisational Psychology or MBA
    • Minimum 7 years’ management experience in a Human Capital discipline. 
    • Experience in working with a Business Unit leadership team would be an advantage.                                      
    • Experience in dealing with regional Human Capital teams would be an advantage.

    Knowledge and Skills

    • Sound knowledge of HC related legislation, BCEA, LRA, etc. 
    • Working knowledge of HC best practice.
    • Experience of managing HC related projects from concept to sign off and implementation. 
    • Ability to lead change in the organisation.
