Safety Officer at Phakisa Group

Duties and Responsibilities:

• Ensure compliance with health and safety legislation and project-specific requirements
• Inspect scaffolding structures, facilitate risk assessments, and monitor contractor performance
• Lead proactive health and safety initiatives related to work at height
• Coordinate scaffolding teams, facilitate safety briefings, and deliver scaffold user awareness training
• Conduct incident investigations, prepare reports with root cause analysis, and implement corrective actions
• Maintain safety files and documentation, ensuring compliance and audit readiness

Qualification and Experience:

• Matric / Grade 12 (required)
• Scaffolding Inspector Certificate (e.g., from CETA-accredited provider)
• SAMTRAC or SHEMTRAC
• Diploma in Safety Management preferred
• Fall Protection Plan Developer Certificate
• Working at Heights
• ISO 45001 internal Auditor/ IMS Implementation
• Legal Liability Course
• Advance Risk Assessment Training Course
• Incident Investigation (e.g., ICAM or RCAT (RCA techniques methods)
• Registration with SACPCMP: (CHSO)
• Fall Arrest Level 2 / Fall Protection Plan Developer
• First Aid Level 1 & Basic Fire Fighting

Technical Work Experience

• Minimum 3–5 years in a health and safety role, preferably in an industrial or construction environment, at least 2+ years specifically overseeing scaffolding operations in high-risk sectors (e.g., manufacturing, petrochemical, pulp & paper)
• Strong understanding of working at heights and fall protection systems
• Experience working on a large industrial site (manufacturing or engineering sector)
• Must have In-depth knowledge of tube and fitting, system scaffolding
