    Safety Technician - VOME

    Role Summary

    • Support and Co-ordinate contractor management inclusive of internal VOME Safety systems and contractor audits, facility designs and installations according to Ford VOME GVOSS standards and play an active role in identifying Hazards and Risks, preventing accidents through process confirmation and auditing, and implementing Safety Regulations and standards as determined by the OHS Act No.85 of 1993, FAS08 Safety standards and Ford GVOSS Standards.

    Position Details

    • Coordinate Safety and Health Legal audits, surveys and ensure compliance to the OHS Act
    • Safety issue investigation and resolution (Safety and Health Complaints)
    • Review new facility designs and installations
    • Review design risk assessments submitted by new equipment installers.
    • Conduct routine internal audits and inspection and log findings on CCAR
    • Introduce and drive new initiatives in terms of health and Safety in the plant though cross functional teamwork amongst VOME Engineering and Contractors
    • Regular internal communication at all levels by way of daily morning meetings and set cadences.
    • Verify all High Potential Near Miss incidents and verify corrective actions implemented.
    • Conduct administrative Control Audits and provide feedback to respective areas
    • Update monthly Contractors score cards
    • Daily, Weekly and Monthly Statistics Updates
    • Assist in Emergency Response
    • Contractor Safety Management including training and auditing.
    • Ensure daily focus on safety with relevant checklists and safety walks
    • Perform incident investigations, generate reports and statistics to relevant departments and contractor companies
    • Ensure Legal Safety Compliance Implementation and tracking by way of CCAR
    • Identify and assess hazards on new layouts before signing off
    • Training employees and contractors on the importance of health and safety on the job. Ability in making recommendations following any accidents or incidents
    • Update chemical registers for all new Chemicals
    • Perform Pro-Tag per installation and ensure all non-compliances are corrected before moving over to the next stage of Protag
    • Review and approve ECPL placards for new and modified equipment.
    • Assist Plant Safety with workstation readiness, picture audits and station buy-offs.

    Qualifications & Experience

    • Minimum National Diploma in Electro-Mechanical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering or Process Engineering
    • 2-3 years in Engineering Field – On the Job Experience
    • National Diploma in Safety Management would be advantageous for this position, but not a minimum requirement
