Role Context

Equipment Operations

• Ensure safe operation of the scaler machine
• To clean open pit high wall by removing loose or dangerous rocks
• Ensure the working areas have safe highwall conditions
• Perform daily checks as indicated on the checklist of the Scaler to ensure that the machine is safe to use before commencing with work
• Perform a brake test procedure to check quality of brakes
• Report any defects or sub-standards to the responsible foreman or supervisor
• Report to responsible foreman or supervisor any condition or situation that will affect normal operation of tasks
• Stop work if there are unsafe conditions and report immediately to the responsible foreman or supervisor
• Report uncertainties or changes in the working conditions to the responsible supervisor
• Adhere to Mine’s standards and procedures and the MHSA

Daily Planning

• Work in line with the established timelines and pressures by driving adherence to the daily and weekly operational plans as well as prioritising adhoc daily requests
• Work according to the daily and weekly plan by engaging with the supervisor to understand the intended targets and notifying them of any potential delays (due to breakdowns or any other causes) to enable continuous monitoring of target achievements

Stakeholder Relations

• Create and maintain good and healthy relationships with other employees and all managers

Risk, Safety and Compliance

• Conduct risk and safety inspections, identifying and reporting any risks within the allocated area of operations and completing the requisite checklist recording the associated risks
• Conduct a prestart safety checklist by inspecting the allocated Scaler machine, identifying any risks and concerns and escalating them to the control room and supervisor ensuring all safety requirements are met before the respective Scaler is put into operation for the day
• Conduct continuous risk assessments throughout the day by proactively identifying and reporting identified risks within the areas of operation and collaborating with the various departments to support and maintain a safe working environment
• Maintain and manage one’s own health and safety across the area of operations by adhering to all health and safety protocols and procedures in order to minimise any incidents within the working environment
• Promote a culture of Zero harm and emphasize compliance to TM policies, values and ethics, so as to cultivate a workplace culture focused on safety and adherence to company policies, values, and ethical standards

Requirements

Qualifications:

• Grade 12 (NQF4)
• Must pass both medical and dover tests

Job-specific experience:

• Minimum of 1 - 2 years of experience operating the Scaler
• Relevant licence of operation for the Scaler
• Competent in relevant unit standards
• Valid driving licence code 08/14

Inherent requirements

• Must be medically fit
