    Section Manager C & I

    The Section Manager Engineering – Control and Instrumentation is accountable for designing, refining, managing, and maintaining equipment which is used to monitor and control engineering systems/processes to meet the business plan/budget and functional targets without compromising safety.

    Minimum Requirements:

    • Degree in a relevant engineering discipline (BSc Engineering, BEng, BTech Control and Instrumentation/Electronics etc)
    • Proven track record of extensive practical experience in Instrumentation/Automation management at middle management level
    • Experience in advanced process (APC), distributed control systems (DCS), programmable logic controllers (PLC), and supervisory control and data acquisition (SCADA).
    • Experience in managing contractors and suppliers in support of C & I
    • Experience of managing large maintenance and engineering teams and providing the vision and leadership for improved performance
    • At least 8 years’ control and instrumentation experience in a mining environment
    • Be declared medically fit for the position and environment, as determined by a risk-based medical examination at the Gold Fields Occupational Health Centre and pass a Heat Tolerance Screening test, and such other tests as may be required to assess the applicant’s suitability for employment

    • Proven delivery focus with ability to implement processes and systems, set clear goals and standards, and take action to ensure attainment
    • Advanced practical Control and Instrumentation experience with sound appreciation for full mining operational value chain
    • In depth understanding of Operational Technology (OT) and the integration into the Corporate Information networks
    • Sound spoken and written English communication skills
    • Ability to cope with ambiguity with high personal resilience and change adaptability
    • Established problem-solving skills with appreciation for business optimisation methodologies e.g., lean-six sigma, etc.
    • Advanced appreciation for operationalising a strong working culture and challenges associated with the business.

    Duties and Responsibilities:

    • Participate in and lead various Safety, Health, and Environmental campaigns
    • Ensuring that effective auditing of C & I safety systems is maintained to enhance South Deep safety standards
    • Actively demonstrate Visible Felt Leadership to instil a pervasive commitment to safety and positive working behaviours
    • Ensure an effective structure is in place with clearly defined accountabilities and measurable outputs by which to judge performance for the C & I team and to function as a valuable contributor to the larger engineering team
    • Implement a performance culture with transparency on measures, results, and consequence with the Design, developing, testing, maintaining, and modifying existing systems.
    • Develop a control and instrumentation management plan and processes to continuously improve critical equipment in instrumentation, networks, hardware, and software
    • Compile control maintenance budgets
    • To ensure that OT systems, processes, policies, and resources are in place and aligned to meet the short and long term demands of skills and competencies required by the company
    • Performing calibration and maintenance of all equipment within the control solution
    • Execution and testing of scheduled backups on all control systems
    • Research and investigate the latest technological trends and make proposals on appropriate implementation programmes to incorporate these into the business.
    • Implement effective C & I failure analysis
    • Analyzing and identifying problems on the current systems and infrastructure
    • Implementing corrective action for areas of instability
