    Section Manager - Roads & Dewatering -Kathu

    Job Description:
    The Road and Dewatering Section Manager will be responsible to:

    • Ensure proper  planning of the operational activities around the pit are in accordance with the Work Instructions compiled by the SRK.
    • Conscientiously apply Codes of Practice as required by Fraser Alexander, Anglo American, the Department of Water Affairs and the DMRE at the slime disposal facilities.
    • Managing risks in the pit to ensure it does not pose a threat to people or the environment.
    • Manage global water recovery and water balance in accordance with the new standards.
    • Ensure involvement in Monthly Sishen Water Reticulation Meetings.
    • Apply Work procedures around the road construction and pit dewatering to minimise risks.
    • Conduct dewatering and road construction per Work Instructions.
    • Abide by environmental legislation.
    • Monitor spending and allocation of expenses to ensure appropriate reporting and cash flow management.
    • Optimizing human resources in a way that maximum output is delivered by the section.
    • Ensuring work ethics is of such a nature that workers continuously strive towards improving their own performance.
    • Setting expectations for the Supervisors about crew leave.  Monitor leave and turnover data and initiate/authorize recruitment activity so that crew strength is maintained.
    • Fully understanding the policies, processes and systems which apply to your team’s work and provide necessary leadership.
    • Understanding process changes and address queries from involved role players.
    • Develop strategic initiatives to ensure sound relations and beneficial impact on performance.
    • Build, manage and maintain healthy relations with stakeholders to achieve organizational goals and production outputs.
    • Manage mine operations and processes safely, efficiently and cost effectively to meet short term and long-term production and project objectives.
    • Improving measures and solutions to eliminate reoccurrence of incidents and pollution
    • Ensuring compliance with all legal, environmental, occupational health, safety and risk management standards and best practices, as well as the OHSAS and MHS Act. 
    • Conduct all activities in accordance with the Minerals Act and Regulations.
    • Assessing and respond to risk in the workplace and implementing safety improvement plans at the operations.
    • Support the development of, and ultimately implement, a purpose-led, high-performing culture within the teams that is aligned with the company values, is inclusive and promotes diversity by act as a role model and actively engage as a team member in all team processes.
    • Implement management processes for employee & contractor management within work area
    • Develop plans to address knowledge and skill gaps in the team through development and coaching, by manage the talent pipeline and proactively conduct recruitment.

    This role is in the Mining department on a band 6 level and reporting to the Manager Mining.

    Qualifications:
    You will be required to have the following:

    • A National Diploma in Mining Engineering
    • Preferably a Degree in B Eng Mining / BSc Mining (Honours will be an advantage.
    • Open cast blasting Certificate
    • FLM / MMP will be a recommendation
    • Mine Managers Certificate of Competence (Will be advantageous)
    • A3 Safety Training
    • Computer Literacy, MS Office. Dispatch system /SAP Literacy
    • Code 08 Drivers Licence

    Experience:

    • 6 years relevant Mining operational experience in a production environment 
    • Sound knowledge in open pit road construction principles
    • Sound knowledge in pit-dewatering strategies.
