    Senior Database Administrator

    Role Summary:

    The Senior Database Administrator is responsible for maintaining the databases within the software, including back-up, performance tuning, capacity planning, monitoring critical events and documentation. This includes facilitating the creation and implementation of the system architecture, in conjunction with software developers in order to lead the development and implementation of all data systems to support scalability, availability, and performance.

    Minimum Requirements:

    • B.Degree/Diploma in Computer Science or related field 
    • Microsoft Certified with evidence of continued learning viz: MSDBA, MCSA, MCSE (Data Platform), Azure DBA Associate or related MS certification

    Experience Required: 

    • 10-12 Years in an IT Environment, preferably working within an SDLC environment with Software Developers, Infrastructure and Security divisions preferable
    • Experience within Linux and Windows Server environments        
    • 6-8 Years + experience within database administration
    • Database optimisation and management within multiply redundant environments viz. active-active   
    • Experience in designing and implementing disaster recovery solutions against strong uptime SLAs viz 99.9%   
    • Strong knowledge of data warehouse design, with designing and implementing complex ETLs from multiple nonrelated data sources
    • Experience in working with cloud-based technologies w.r.t managing full stack data solutions
    • Extensive experience in implementing best practice security standards thus ensuring relevant levels of access and permissions maintained within database environment
    • Strong SQL Server Scripting as part of database layer within SDLC  
    • Minimum of 2 years' experience in managing a team of DBA’s, having had exposure to the following:
    • Team size a minimum of at least 2 direct reports
    • Facilitate the establishment of team structure and roles and planning for resource allocation for projects
    • Recruiting and hiring for an expanding DBA team in conjunction with HR
    • Staff forecasting and resource planning
    • Onboarding and training new hires
    • Coaching, reviewing and encouraging growth
    • Regular one on one meetings and team meetings with team members
    • Conducting performance appraisals and identifying areas for improvement
    • Proven experience in assisting team to reach departmental and organizational objectives
    • Identify, manage and monitor any disciplinary issues within the team in conjunction with HR
    • Install and maintain the performance of database servers.        
    • Develop processes for optimizing database security.        
    • Set and maintain database standards         
    • Performance tuning of database systems.          
    • Install, upgrade, and manage database applications.          
    • Diagnose and troubleshoot database errors. 
    • Recommend and implement emerging database technologies.          
    • Create and manage database reports, visualizations, and dashboards.          
    • Create automation for repeating database tasks such as installations, updates, maintenance task configuration, etc…         
    • Help migrate all data stores from an on-premise setup to the cloud          
    • Collaborate with development through the SDLC process to solve complex problems while maintaining database standards and best practices.         
    • Responsible for ensuring application/database stability and functionality, including all environments: development, test, and production 
    • Support software developers with database operations including the development of complex SQL, tuning of DML and the creation of stored procedures.  
    • Database unit testing frameworks like TSQLT         
    • Proactive housekeeping/archiving and shrinking of databases.        
    • Manage the production, QA and development database environments.          
    • Create detailed documentation including diagrams of database infrastructur. Learn relevant business processes and understand the data flow, criticality and          dependencies.          
    • Effectively coordinate and communicate with all the stakeholders (internal teams and clients).          
    • Set up and maintain database infrastructure for the company’s BI needs.        
    • In conjunction with HR, recruit, hire, onboard and ensure continuous development of the team ·          
    • Define roles and responsibilities within the team ensuring that objectives are understood and accomplished 
    • Delegation of tasks and projects to team members 
    • Facilitation of team meetings with set agenda points 
    • Regular one on one meetings with team members 
    • Coach and mentor team members in order to reach team and organizational objectives Meetings are minuted and uploaded onto central access point 
    • Conduct performance reviews with team members 
    • Ensure that performance measures are defined in line with organizational objectives and any performance issues are addressed, and measures are put into place to improve performance 
    • Conduct, manage and monitor any disciplinary processes within team, in conjunction with HR
