RPO Recruitment’s client, a leading engineering firm in Cape Town is seeking a Senior Electrical & Automation Design Engineer to join its growing engineering team.
This opportunity is ideal for a technically driven engineer who enjoys taking full ownership of projects, from initial design and development through to installation, commissioning, and ongoing optimisation.
Key Responsibilities:
Design electrical control systems and develop detailed electrical schematics.
Develop PLC, SCADA, and HMI software solutions for industrial automation projects.
Design control panels, generate bills of materials (BOMs), and specify electrical components.
Support procurement activities by selecting appropriate electrical equipment and instrumentation.
Perform factory acceptance testing (FAT), workshop testing, and system verification.
Provide on-site installation support, commissioning, troubleshooting, and fault finding.
Develop, implement, and maintain company electrical engineering standards and best practices.
Deliver projects from concept through detailed design, testing, commissioning, and handover.
Requirements:
BEng, BTech or National Diploma in Electrical, Electronic or Mechatronic Engineering.
Minimum 5 years' experience in industrial automation (8+ years preferred).
Strong background in electrical design and industrial control systems.
Proven experience with PLC programming (Siemens TIA Portal and/or Rockwell Studio 5000).
Experience developing SCADA and HMI applications.
Proficiency in electrical design software, with EPLAN being highly advantageous.
Solid understanding of industrial instrumentation, including 4–20 mA, RTDs, Modbus, Profinet, Ethernet/IP, and similar communication protocols.
Experience with motor control centres (MCCs), variable speed drives (VSDs), industrial control panels, and motor control systems.
Willingness to travel for site installations and commissioning as required.
