    Senior English (HL) Teacher

    Job Description

    • The ADvTECH Schools Division leads the private sector in the field of education, contributing meaningfully towards the sustainable development of human capacity in South Africa.

    Key Purpose

    • To deliver high-quality, engaging and differentiated teaching that enables every student to achieve their academic potential. The Crawford College teacher creates a positive, purposeful learning environment, builds strong relationships with students, parents and colleagues, and contributes actively to the academic, cultural and broader life of the school.
    • The successful candidate demonstrates professionalism, integrity and a commitment to continuous learning, while preparing students with the knowledge, skills and values required for a changing world.

    Key Responsibilities

    Teaching and Learning

    • Plan and deliver engaging, challenging and differentiated lessons aligned with the school curriculum and educational approach.
    • Create a positive learning environment in which students are motivated, supported and challenged.
    • Use appropriate teaching strategies, technology and resources to enhance learning.
    • Monitor student progress and provide additional academic support where required.
    • Identify opportunities for enrichment, extension and the development of critical thinking, agency and future-focused skills.
    • Collaborate with colleagues to plan, reflect and improve teaching practice.
    • Remain current with developments in education and participate actively in professional development.

    Assessment and Reporting

    • Assess, record and monitor student progress accurately and consistently.
    • Use assessment data to inform teaching and support each student's learning journey.
    • Provide meaningful and timely feedback to students and parents.
    • Maintain accurate academic records and complete reporting requirements.
    • Participate in moderation, standardisation, team marking and external assessment processes, including IEB requirements where applicable.

    Student Wellbeing and Behaviour

    • Establish and maintain clear expectations for behaviour and create a respectful, inclusive classroom environment.
    • Support the academic, social and emotional development of students.
    • Build positive relationships with students and parents.
    • Identify students experiencing barriers to learning or requiring additional support and refer them through the appropriate channels.
    • Contribute to the school's mentorship and pastoral programmes where required.

    Contribution to School Life

    • Act as a positive role model and uphold the values, culture and reputation of the school.
    • Participate actively in the broader life of the school, including extra-curricular activities, events, assemblies, excursions and other duties.
    • Support school initiatives and, where required, contribute to admissions, marketing and community events.
    • Work collaboratively with colleagues and contribute positively to the school community.

    Administration and Professional Responsibilities

    • Maintain a well-organised, safe and purposeful learning environment.
    • Complete administrative duties accurately and within required timeframes.
    • Follow school policies, procedures and operational requirements.
    • Assist with supervision, substitution and other duties as required.

    Qualifications and Requirements

    • Relevant Bachelor's degree (NQF 7) and PGCE/HDE or B.Ed., with appropriate subject specialisation.
    • Valid SACE registration.
    • Police clearance.

    Experience

    Minimum

    • 3–5 years' teaching experience.
    • Demonstrates subject specialisation and experience teaching at the appropriate high school level.

    Preferred

    • Experience with enquiry-based and student-centred learning approaches.
    • Familiarity with the IEB curriculum and assessment requirements.
    • IEB examination and/or matric marking experience.
    • Level 1 First Aid qualification.
