    Senior Lecturer/Associate Professor

    Requirements:
    • University degree in statistics or biostatistics, with doctoral degree in biostatistics, statistics, or a closely-related discipline
    • Demonstrated experience and ability to teach statistics to non-statistical audiences
    • Demonstrated experience applying statistical methods in collaboration with researchers in the health sciences
    • Demonstrated experience in the following statistical techniques: repeated measures analyses; survival methods and longitudinal analyses; and/or design and analysis of clinical trials
    • Track record in postgraduate supervision and mentoring of students
    • High levels of competence and experience in communicating statistical concepts and the results of statistical analyses, including evidence of scientific publications
    • Close familiarity with major packages including R
    Additional requirements for appointment at level of Associate Professor:
    • Evidence of successful doctoral student supervision
    • Evidence of an independent research profile
    • Leadership in research projects and scientific publications
    • Evidence of successful management in an academic setting
    Advantageous:
    • Experience in biostatistical consulting
    Responsibilities:
    • Teaching entry-, intermediate- and/or advanced-level biostatistics within the School and Faculty to undergraduate and postgraduate audiences
    • Development and oversight of biostatistics training activities at School and Faculty level
    • Supervision of student research degrees, particularly at masters and doctoral levels
    • Mentor and supervise research staff within SPH&FM with regards to statistical concepts and methods
    • Collaborate on and carry out statistical analyses from projects across public health, clinical and/or laboratory specialties drawing on a broad range of analytic methods
    • Develop over time an independent portfolio of research relevant to commonly used biostatistical methods
    • Course convening as well as Divisional, Departmental and/or Faculty academic administration activities
    The annual cost of employment including benefits for 2021 (subject to annual increases for 2022):
    • Senior Lecturer level: R 921 012
    • Associate Professor level: R 1 105 604
    In addition, the position is eligible for a 10% scarce skills allowance.
