    Senior Lecturer (College of Business & Economics: Department of Finance and Investment Management)

    Job Description:

    The University of Johannesburg is actively recruiting for a Senior Lecturer in the Department of Finance and Investment Management. The Department of Finance and Investment Management is a dynamic department offering a variety of qualifications including undergraduate programmes, which can grant students access to any one of five different Honour’s programmes.

    Duties:

    The incumbent will be expected to:

    • Lecturing at under and postgraduate level in the area such as Financial Markets, Derivatives Pricing, Risk management, Portfolio Management and Construction, Financial Mathematics, Programming for Financ, etc.
    • Conduct research in the field of investments and regularly publish in accredited academic journals.
    • Participate in identified community outreach projects.
    • Participate in supervision of postgraduate students.
    • Assist in academic administration and leadership.
    • Participate in departmental and college-level committees.

    Minimum requirements

    • A Doctoral Degree in a Finance, Actuarial Sciences or related field.
    • Working knowledge of advanced finance software.
    • Between four- and eight-years working experience in the Higher Education environment.
    • Strong Maths or related Mathematical background (Masters in Maths of Finance, Quantitative Finance, Maths, Stats, Physics, Engineering, Comp Science)
    • Experience conducting research in Quantitative Finance (Prior publications)
    • Proven supervision experience at Honours and Masters’ level (completed students)
    • Previous lecturing experience in the relevant subject disciplines.
    • Engagement in and record of research publications and presentations at conferences.
    • Supervised research projects of postgraduate students successfully at Masters and Doctoral level.

    • Research experience in relevant subject disciplines.
    • Knowledge of the online learning environment. 
    • CFA Charter holder.
    • Financial Risk Management (FRM) Certification.
