    Senior Lecturer In English (V000246) (Re-advertisement)

    KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

    Teaching and Learning

    • Teach English linguistics modules at both undergraduate and honours level. These include the various core linguistic subdisciplines, but with a particular focus on syntax, morphology and semantics.
    • Supervise M.A and PhD students in linguistics.
    • Team teaching, student evaluations, assignments, tests and examinations, supervision of postgraduates.
    • Complete related administrative tasks, such as managing marks and monitoring student progress.
    • Set and mark assessments.
    • Hold office hours for consultations with students.
    • Attend meetings (with the subject group, teaching team, and/or module tutors).
    • Act as module convenor across the three NWU sites.
    • Moderate assessments internally.
    • Manage records by maintaining module files for Internal and/or External Programme Evaluation.

    Research and innovation

    • Contribute towards the research output of the School of Languages by publishing in accredited journals.
    • Present at national and international conferences.

    Social Responsiveness

    • Be involved in relevant community engagement projects.

    Occupational Health and Safety

    • Corporate with management, OHS officials and colleagues to help everyone meet the legal requirements, whilst upholding and maintaining general occupational health and safety standards and practices.

    Minimum requirements

    • A PhD (NQF level 10) in English Linguistics or English Applied Linguistics.
    • A minimum of three (3) years’ teaching, learning and research experience at local or tertiary educational institution.
    • A minimum of 2 published articles in accredited journals.
    • Evidence of post-graduate supervision experience.

    ADDED ADVANTAGE:

    • Membership of Local and/or International Linguistics Associations.
