    Senior Lecturer/ Lecturer: Human Genetics

    Requirements:

    • MSc (Medical Science) degree or equivalent (Human Genetics) 
    • Experience working in Human Genetics Lab for a minimum of two (2) years 
    • A minimum two (2) years teaching/laboratory experience at an institution of higher education. 
    • Experience in e-learning teaching/evaluation 
    • Proof of participation students supervision and research activities 
    • Membership to the Southern African Society for Human Genetics (SASHG), South African Society of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology (SASBMB) will be an added advantage. 

    Duties:

    • Apply a variety of teaching styles to teach relevant modules at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels to students in Cytogenetics, Quantitative Genetics, Molecular Genetics 
    • Develop study materials and learner guides for Human Genetics students. 
    • Oversee discipline based curriculum development and updating of study materials. 
    • Evaluate/assess students, identify at-risk-students and facilitate appropriate intervention. 
    • With a focus on quality assurance, organize module files, and maintain records of all academic activities. 
    • Supervise final year students and provide academic mentorship. 

    SENIOR LECTURER (HUMAN GENETICS) 
     
    Requirements:

    • A relevant PhD degree or MMED equivalent in Human Genetics. 
    • At least 5 years’ experience-teaching Human Genetics at an institution of Higher learning. 
    • At least (3) articles published in SAPSE accredited journals. 
    • Experience in postgraduate student supervision in the relevant field 
    • Proof of publication in SAPSE accredited journals. 
    • Experience in e-learning teaching/evaluation 
    • Experience in assessment and moderation. 
    • Membership to the Southern African Society for Human Genetics (SASHG) South African Society of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology (SASBMB) will be an added advantage. 

    Duties and Responsibilities:

    • Source external research funding and initials own research and support and complement current research in the department. 
    • Supervise final year, Masters and doctoral students and provide academic mentorship to junior staff. 
    • Participate in community activities. 
    • Perform duties as allocated by the Head of the Department.
