The Faculty seeks professionally qualified candidates for a post of Senior Lecturer/Lecturer in Oral Hygiene on the conditions of service of the University of the Western Cape.

Responsibilities will include:

• Teaching and training on the clinical platform,
• Clinical teaching of undergraduate students,
• Under and post-graduate supervision,
• Active participation in research and publications,
• Administrative duties related to the post,
• Rendering services to patients at all platforms serviced by the Faculty of Dentistry,
• Participation in Community Engagement activities.

Minimum Requirements

• A Bachelor of Oral Health degree, 
• A Masters degree in the field of health sciences or education, relevant to Oral Hygiene, 
• A minimum of 5 years’ teaching experience in a Higher Education Institution, 
• Being currently attached to a training institution in a full or part-time capacity and involved in teaching and clinical supervision of undergraduate oral hygiene students,
• Registration with the Health Professions Council of South Africa (HPCSA), 
• HPCSA registration should include independent practice and the full Oral Hygiene scope of practice as per the Government Gazette, 17th September 2021. 

The Academic level of the appointment will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.
Recommendation

• Post graduate qualification in education,
• Experience in curriculum development,
• A keen interest in teaching and learning, research and administration,
• Experience in research supervision,
• Publications in the field of Oral Hygiene.

The following will serve as a strong recommendation in being considered for appointment:

• A PhD relevant to the field of health sciences or education relevant to oral hygiene.

The following would enhance an application (at each of the above levels):

• Proficiency in the treatment and management of oral diseases in line with the latest scope of practice of the Oral Hygienist, including knowledge of recent trends in patient management,
• Ability to work in a team,
• Good interpersonal, communication and organizational skills
