    Senior Lecturer (ONE POST) - Department of Mercantile Law - Faculty of Law

    Senior Lecturer 

    In pursuit of the ideals of excellence and diversity, the University of Pretoria wishes to invite applications for the following vacancy.     Responsibilities
    The successful applicant will be expected to:

    • Specialising in Corporate Law with a specific focus on:
      • Insolvency Law (including corporate insolvency and business rescue) or
      • Information and Communications and Technology (IT) Law;
    • Teaching at undergraduate and postgraduate level in Corporate Law and related sub-fields in the Department of Mercantile Law;
    • Teaching in a variety of modules offered by the Department of Mercantile Law at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels in order to meet the needs of the department;
    • Conducting academic and scholarly research;
    • Having an in-depth understanding of specialisation to enable development of new knowledge, innovation and understanding within the field;
    • Supervising Master of Laws and doctoral students;
    • Mentoring students at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels;
    • Performing academic administration and management;
    • Performing other duties as delegated by the Head of the Department.
       

    Minimum Requirements

    • A relevant doctoral degree specialising in Corporate Law with a linkage to:
      • Insolvency Law (including corporate insolvency and business rescue) or
      • IT Law (or proven exposure to Insolvency Law or IT Law);
    • At least five years’ teaching experience, including curriculum development, at a tertiary educational institution;
    • At least eight accredited quality publications, of which three should have been published in the past three years;
    • Conference papers delivered and evidence of successful postgraduate supervision will be a strong recommendation.
       

    Required Competencies (skills, Knowledge And Behavioural Attributes)

    • Applicable practical professional experience;
    • Postgraduate supervision/teaching experience;
    • Participation in academic conferences, seminars and workshops;
    • Ability to plan and initiate discipline-related research;
    • Ability to work independently and as part of a dynamic team;
    • Appropriate communication skills;
    • National and some international recognition in own field of expertise by peers in the discipline.

    The annual remuneration package will be commensurate with the incumbent’s level of appointment, as determined by UP policy guidelines. UP subscribes to the BESTMED and UMVUZO medical aid schemes and contributes 50% of the applicable monthly premium.
