    Senior Lecturer (ONE POST) - Department of Mercantile Law - Faculty of Law

    Senior Lecturer 

    In pursuit of the ideals of excellence and diversity, the University of Pretoria wishes to invite applications for the following vacancy.     Responsibilities
    The successful applicant will be expected to:

    • Specialising in Corporate Law with a specific focus on:
      • Insolvency Law (including corporate insolvency and business rescue) or
      • Information and Communications and Technology (IT) Law;
    • Teaching at undergraduate and postgraduate level in Corporate Law and related sub-fields in the Department of Mercantile Law;
    • Teaching in a variety of modules offered by the Department of Mercantile Law at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels in order to meet the needs of the department;
    • Conducting academic and scholarly research;
    • Having an in-depth understanding of specialisation to enable development of new knowledge, innovation and understanding within the field;
    • Supervising Master of Laws and doctoral students;
    • Mentoring students at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels;
    • Performing academic administration and management;
    • Performing other duties as delegated by the Head of the Department.
       

    Minimum Requirements

    • A relevant doctoral degree specialising in Corporate Law with a linkage to:
      • Insolvency Law (including corporate insolvency and business rescue) or
      • IT Law (or proven exposure to Insolvency Law or IT Law);
    • At least five years’ teaching experience, including curriculum development, at a tertiary educational institution;
    • At least eight accredited quality publications, of which three should have been published in the past three years;
    • Conference papers delivered and evidence of successful postgraduate supervision will be a strong recommendation.
       

    Required Competencies (skills, Knowledge And Behavioural Attributes)

    • Applicable practical professional experience;
    • Postgraduate supervision/teaching experience;
    • Participation in academic conferences, seminars and workshops;
    • Ability to plan and initiate discipline-related research;
    • Ability to work independently and as part of a dynamic team;
    • Appropriate communication skills;
    • National and some international recognition in own field of expertise by peers in the discipline.

    The annual remuneration package will be commensurate with the incumbent’s level of appointment, as determined by UP policy guidelines. UP subscribes to the BESTMED and UMVUZO medical aid schemes and contributes 50% of the applicable monthly premium.

    • An honours degree in Educational Psychology or a honours degree in Counselling Psychology
    • Experience as a student mentor or student counsellor.

    • Computer literate and competent working with Excel;
    • Good communication skills;
    • Empathic and helpful nature;
    • Registration or membership with a professional body.

    This role is responsible for the following:

    • To provide leadership in all aspects of the Engineering 4.0 facility;
    • To promote transdisciplinary research excellence and capacity development at Engineering 4.0;
    • To foster the development of research networks and training at an advanced level with the aim of contributing to Africa’s sustainable and equitable development at Engineering 4.0;
    • To provide a comprehensive high-level strategic support service to the Faculty and Department;
    • Managing the human and financial resources for selected Engineering 4.0 operations, and
    • To provide leadership to meet ISO 9001, ISO 14001 and OHSAS 18001 requirements.
       

    The Successful Candidate Will Be Responsible For

    • Operational and Administrative support;
    • Strategic management and planning;
    • Strategic marketing and public relations;
    • Research, publications and teaching;
    • Risk management, quality assurance and compliance.
       

    Minimum Requirements

    • An engineering degree from an accredited university;
    • A Master’s degree in Engineering or Engineering management;
    • At least five years’ experience at middle management level in an academic institution or similar organization;
    • Research experience in an appropriate field linked to the objectives of the Engineering 4.0 facility
       

    Required Competencies (skills, Knowledge And Behavioural Attributes)

    • Leadership abilities
    • Interpersonal skills
    • Ability to lead organisational development and innovation
    • Ability to manage international partnerships
       

    Added Advantages And Preferences

    • PhD degree in Engineering field;
    • Management qualifications eg. MBA or appropriate for managing Engineering 4.0-type facility;
    • At least three years’ experience at senior management a level in an academic institution or similar organisation;
    • Experience in a team-based, client-orientated, network organisation;
    • Experience with legislative requirements for support functions as applied to the higher education sector;
    • Experience in attracting funding and grant writing;
    • Registration as an Engineer at ECSA (required);
    • Driver’s licence;
    • To provide leadership to meet ISO 9001, ISO 14001 and OHSAS 18001 requirements.
