    Senior Managing Counsel

    Senior Managing Counsel

    Overview

    • The appointed person will be a vital part of the regional legal team which currently oversees the legal and regulatory needs of the EEMEA region (Middle East & Africa).
    • This position will report directly to the Lead Regional Counsel for EEMEA.
    • The appointed person will be responsible for all legal aspects of the business in dedicated EEMEA markets/ countries that are assigned to him/her by the Lead Regional Counsel for EEMEA with a main focus on Southern Africa and also responsible for other work, including project based work and/or pan-region work, which will be assigned by the Lead Regional Counsel. The appointed person will be expected to make significant contribution to the successful management and growth of the business.

    Role

    • Responsible for all legal aspects of the business in dedicated markets/countries that are assigned to him/her by the Lead Regional Counsel and also responsible for other work, including project based work and/or pan-region work, which will be assigned by the Lead Regional Counsel.
    • Review and negotiate contracts with clients and suppliers including a significant number of technology and finserv contracts.
    • Assist senior management teams in assigned countries in the management of legal and commercial risks.
    • Assist in the establishment and maintenance of a network of external legal advisors in assigned countries.
    • Monitor regulatory developments in countries assigned to him/her and selected regulatory efforts.
    • Handle issues related to privacy law, data protection, anti-money laundering.

    All About You

    • Extensive post-qualification experience in general commercial legal matters in a reputable law firm or corporation. In-house experience is preferred.
    • Must be able to work independently and collaboratively as part of a wider group of professionals.
    • Must be able to contribute and operate effectively within a diverse multicultural organization.
    • Must have a pro-business facilitating attitude
    • Thorough, meticulous and attention to detail but nevertheless able to prioritize, focus on the important rather than just urgent matters and get the job done.
    • Good commercial judgment and creative approach to problem-solving.
    • Knowledge of banking or financial services industry: ideally cards, payments, settlement etc.
    • Experience in providing legal advice to an organization involved in sponsorship.
    • Experienced in handling competition law issues.
    • Experience as Legal Counsel in a region, reporting to head office in another country.
    • Experience working for a global US corporation.
