Work in a close relationship with the sub-contracted on-site materials laboratory and the Laboratory Manager to discuss progress and standards of the laboratory;
Conduct regular laboratory inspections and draft reports in this regard;
Act as liaison between the Engineer’s Representative and the laboratory;
Advise the RE on where the laboratory does not comply with the contractual and technical requirements;
Prepare and sign-off materials mix and seal designs or any other relevant matter for submission to the Engineer’s Representative;
Determine the number and locality of acceptance testing required for each lot;
Verify the requests for lot acceptance submitted by the contractor and ensure the tests requested are in line with the lot submitted;
Ensure the laboratory is granted sufficient time for sampling with regards to every request received;
Keeps track of submission time for laboratory results;
Receive and verify all the test results from the laboratory manager;
Sign-off test reports and make recommendations for approval or rejection;
Inspect works daily which shall inter alia include materials sources, layer works, bituminous surfacings, structures and any other materials related to items on site;
Do visual inspections on materials in lots submitted for approval;
Inspect all trial sections constructed and complete as well as record trial section checklists;
Populate progress sheets linking test requests with the position on layer works;
Draft the monthly materials and laboratory reports;
Keep As-Built data up to date in the prescribed format.
The ideal Candidate should:
Have a minimum of 20 years’ experience of which a minimum of 5 years must have been spent on major roads projects; or
Have a National Diploma in Civil Engineering plus 10 years appropriate experience, or
Be registered as a Professional Technician by ECSA or any other international body recognized by ECSA with a minimum of 5 years must have been spent on major roads projects;
Have a thorough understanding of applicable statutory requirements, standards, specifications and codes within the Civil engineering environment;
Be an honest, confident and effective communicator, a self-starter capable of working as a team and meeting deliverables against strict deadlines;
Have strong interpersonal, analytical and problem solving skills;
Have a valid driver’s licence;
Have solid computer skills - MS office, Outlook, Word and Excel;
Additionally:
Provide own transport, cell phone and laptop
Accommodation will be provided through the contract;
Travel will be reimbursed at Bosch Projects rates.
