    Senior Planning Accountant - Cape Town

    Purpose of the Job

    • To manage the compilation of the business plan, financial forecasts and associated analysis and reporting, to ensure congruency, strategy alignment and consistency across all divisions and the Group.

    • You can interrogate both external and internal relevant documents / policies, guidelines, models and translate these into Engen specific requirements to ensure accurate outputs with minimum manager intervention.
    • You can “connect the dots” and translate macro and micro environment changes into your SME areas of responsibility consistently.
    • You understand the Engen value chain through continuous engagement with business units and ensure all necessary changes are comprehended in business plan and forecasts.
    • You can lead “cross divisional / functional working teams” to investigate, solve, propose & implement solutions wrt forecast and planning income statements, balance sheets and cash flow statements. 
    • You are a recognized SME in your areas of expertise.
    • You have excellent interpersonal, communication, problem-solving and analytical skills.
    • You plan well, are organized and have excellent time management.

    What you’ll have done before:

    Baseline:

    • NQF Level 7 (BCom or equivalent)
    • 8 years of experience in Downstream O&G
    • 5 years in Finance/Planning performing complex financial consolidations or Business Planning & Forecasting 

    Advantageous:

    • BCom (Accounting and Economics)
    • Chartered Accountant CA/SA or CIMA
    • Corporate Strategy experience

    Exciting Challenges you might face in the role:

    • You will own the Engen Planning process and will need to lead and influence outcomes backed up with defendable macro, micro assumptions and best in class planning processes and enablers. 
    • You continuously consider Engen’s changing business landscape and strategies through a planning, budgeting, and forecasting lens to ensure accurate assumptions ensuring a meaningful and quality output to stakeholders.
    • Collaborate with various business divisions to provide accurate financial information and value-added analysis for the purpose of informed decision making and closing of performance gaps.
    • Lead Engen in the next generation planning, budgeting, and forecasting enablers.
    • Develop excellent Board pack, paper and presentation that supports final board approvals, providing the appropriate level of detail with clear and concise messages.
    • Develop best in class planning and forecasting sensitivities that is pro active in assessing risk to key financial outcomes on a continuous basis. 
    • Lead projects as part of the functions of your role.
    • Ability to work successfully in an ever-changing environment and navigate ambiguity.
    • Lead and shape the Planning, budgeting and forecasting changes that will be required with a change in control.

    What you’ll be doing:

    BUSINESS PLANNING:

    • Co-ordinate the annual group business planning process through collaboration with budgeting teams in the business and Corporate Strategy team, ensuring aligned and congruent with strategy, delivered within timelines and within formats required by key stakeholders; Prepare Shareholder/Board presentations and Board Packs.

    FORECASTING:

    • Manage, co-ordinate and analyse the monthly 24 month rolling forecast ensuring timeous, accurate and meaningful reports and narrative provided to all key stakeholders within required formats; Ensure assumptions are updated and appropriate outcomes are reviewed and challenged on an ongoing basis to ensure alignment to changes in the operating environment; Monitor performance, identify and communicate areas for course correction to stakeholders.

    BUSINESS PLANNING AND FORECASTING MODELS MANAGED:

    • Manage maintenance and enhancement of BPC model for planning and forecasting; Exploit the systems capability to enable more efficient and effective budgeting and forecasting processes.

    ANALYSIS:

    • Assist with analysis of impacts of strategic projects on business performance; Develop next-generation financial analysis – predictive modelling and what-if scenarios.
