Primary Duties
Perform a full range of varied and responsible Electrical Engineering design work for Process Assets in LV and MV switchgear and reticulation, large MV and LV motor drives including variable speed drives, transformers, UPS systems, cable installations, control systems, protection systems and automation design interface to PLC/SCADA systems requiring judgment and evaluation, selection, application of standards and electrical engineering theory and adaptation of standard techniques where required.
Functional and detailed electrical designs for process assets (including calculations, drawings (including single line diagrams and schematic diagrams and general arrangements), technical specifications, Bills of Quantities and other tender document inputs).
Integration of a proposed engineering solution into an operating plant, where required, with minimal effect to the operation of such plant.
Be part of and contribute to the interface with other engineering design disciplines (mechanical, civil, pipelines, process, architectural and automation), consultants, asset engineers/managers, project managers and team, and contractors’ designers to accomplish completely integrated electrical designs
suitable for implementation.
Review contractors’ designs in Design and Build contracts and respond formally to such design submissions ensuring that functionality and compliance to Rand Water standards and requirements are achieved.
Participate and give input in scoping meetings, functional and detailed design reviews, hazard and operability studies and present scopes/designs to Asset Managers/site personnel and project managers.
Witnessing Factory Acceptance Tests (FAT) of manufactured electrical equipment to check compliance to design requirements.
Mentoring, coaching and take responsibility for junior engineers and/or technical staff on own projects
