    Senior Project Manager

    Summary

    This role is responsible for delivering assigned projects on time, on budget and within the agreed scope and quality levels within the DSV governance framework. To do this, the role has to interface with all project stakeholders. The PM works closely with internal/external clients to consult on client requirements, expectation management, risk and issue management, change management.

    • This role directly supports company objectives and contributes to identifying, analyzing & developing value-adding and robust solutions for current & prospective customers.
    • It is vital for the success of this position for the candidate to effectively align customer needs and solutions, with DSV values, policies and strategy to directly support sustainable and profitable business.
    • Successful collaboration with Global IT, Operations teams, contractors, & other internal and external stakeholders is critical

    Essential Duties And Responsibilities

    Tools: Application of the following tools and/or methodologies as appropriate and when required:

    • Project Office (Clarity)
    • AQP (Advanced Quality Process) – Facilitation
    • Scheduling (Microsoft Projects)
    • Product based planning (Microsoft Visio)
    • Service Request Management (Cherwell)
    • Project Cost Management (SAP, Webcost)
    • Activity and resource planning: making a feasible plan that achieves the goals and objectives of the project and aligns with the organization’s overall business strategy. Part of the plan is defining the project’s scope and determining what resources are available, estimating time and financial commitment, as well as how to monitor and report on the project’s progress, identify and manage project dependencies.
    • Manage Project Execution: Manage Projects to complete on time and on budget. Coordinates completion and transition between phases, tasks and teams;
    • Assembling and Leading Project Team: assigning tasks and deadlines, utilizing tools to collaborate. Schedule and facilitation of regular meetings to obtain status updates and chart progress, reallocate resources to balance workloads and to evaluate competencies and capabilities of team members. Organizing and motivating team members; Group facilitations (such workshops and Advanced Quality Planning).
    • Time Management: define, schedule and accurately estimate the task duration to develop and maintain a realistic schedule;
    • Cost estimating and developing the budget: Develop the budget for proper funding, and maintain actual spend versus approved budget;
    • Quality and Satisfaction: Deliver satisfying results to stakeholders, keep constant communication;
    • Change Management: Ensure Change management is integrated into project management by planning change management at the same time as project planning and delivering change management according to schedule;
    • Risks and Issues Management: Apply sound risk management principles to all aspects of projects & engineering activities to ensure all risk factors are avoided, mitigated and/or managed in the best interests of DSV business, clients and staff. Objective of this is also to reduce the time and cost of project execution. Management of Issues through the proper DSV Project governance and escalation protocols.
    • Monitoring Progress: Monitor and analyze both expenditures and team performance and to always efficiently take corrective measures;
    • Escalation Management: Timely escalations of project issues/challenges to executive sponsor.
    • Reporting and Documentation: Reporting on projects according to the defined structures and project management method
    • Stakeholder Management: To develop and maintain sound stakeholder (incl. clients) relationships based on competence, respect and trust
    • Contractual: Support contract development and/or negotiation with clients and suppliers;
    • Procurement Management: Support supplier selection and management aligned with sound ethical business practice and DSV Policy;
    • Project Steering Committee Meetings: Prepare for and facilitate project steering committee meetings.
    • Project Framework and Governance: Ensure use of disciplined, officially sanctioned DSV project management processes.
    • Travel: Reasonable local and international travel requirement to use knowledge, skills and experience in support of relevant DSV business objectives.
    • Be loyal, trust worthy employee and partner to your project executive(s)
    • Have subject matter knowledge, specifically with regards to implementing enterprise systems.
    • Have good, respectful and positive work relationships with ALL counterparts and you are perceived as a respected and pleasant colleague to work with

    • You follow the guidelines, procedures, processes and structures for DSV
    • You know the documents that define DSV (Whitepapers, strategy, culture) and work accordingly

    • The work you produce (documents, presentations) looks professional and follows the guidelines of DSV
    • There is a set of KPI’s for your department, the sections and the individual project managers as well as the budget and expectations as set in the project initiation document for your projects; It is expected you live up to them
    • Ability to work in a structured way
    • Goal oriented and a “can do” attitude
    • Ability to build, maintain, lead and manage a multi-disciplinary project team

    Qualifications

    • Matric / Grade 12 (essential)
    • Degree in Project Management or Transport Management/Economics or relevant four-year qualification from accredited institution

    Computer Skills

    • Microsoft Visio (advanced)
    • Microsoft Project (advanced)
    • Excel (advanced)
    • Project Portfolio management software (such as Clarity, PPO)

    Minimum Requirements

    • Project Management experience: >/= 8 years in logistics environment, supply chain management and including Transport Management/Logistic System (TMS) implementation;
    • Global Experience: >5 years experience in managing project teams and experience with regard to managing local & global executive stakeholders;
    • Logistics Operational Management experience: > 1 years with demonstrated knowledge of best practices;
    • Leadership experience in Project or Operations role: > 5 years with effective staff performance management & development;
    • Facilitation skills: > 5 years effective experience in leading & influencing a diverse group through planning and/or problem solving activities for effective outcomes;
    • Financial: > 3 years effective experience in developing budgets & managing actual versus budget, including CAPEX, OPEX and P&L’s;
    • Contractual: > 3 years’ experience in directly supporting contract and service level development and negotiations with clients and vendors
    • Road Logistics Best Practice: w.r.t. operational processes
    • Unendorsed license & own transport;
    • Ability to travel around Gauteng, South Africa & International;
    • Excellent written & verbal communications skills;
    • Strong interpersonal skills & able to work in a collaborative & team-based environment;
    • Ability to employ effective problem-solving abilities;
    • Strong analytical and organizational skills
    • Detail oriented, high work rate & quality of work
    • General business acumen and sound knowledge of procurement principles, engineering economics and fundamental accounting principles;
    • Warehouse Design and Configuration aligned to Best Practices, OHS and Legal Compliance: Extensive knowledge and experience;
    • Project Management accreditation such as Prince2 or PMP
    • Applied negotiation skills
    • Applied risk management skills
    • Supply Chain Management accreditation such as CSCP, SCOR-P, etc
    • Application software development experience with strong IT acumen will be beneneficial
    • Project management certification e.g. PMI Certified,Prince ii Certified
