    Senior Technician

    • The Department of Anatomical Sciences in the School of Biomedical Sciences seeks to make an appointment at the level of Senior Technician.  More information about the Department of Anatomical Sciences can be found here: https://www.wits.ac.za/anatomicalsciences/
    •  Applications are invited for the above-mentioned position from suitably qualified and experienced candidates.

    Brief Description        
    Qualifications:

    • Matric Certificate with National Diploma in Medical Technology or a BSc, BSc Hons or MSc in a related field is required.

    Experience and Requirements:

    • 3-5 years’ working experience is required.
    • Laboratory experience and competency are required in the following techniques: histology, immunocytochemistry/immunohistochemistry, tissue culture and molecular biology techniques.
    • Knowledge of laboratory occupational Health and Safety will be beneficial.
    • Good computer skills are essential.
    • Good interpersonal and communication skills are essential.
    • The candidate should be able to work with a team.
    • The ability to train staff and students in various laboratory techniques and use of laboratory equipment as required.

    Responsibilities:

    • Assist with the setting up of practical classes for undergraduate students in Histology and Cell Biology and with Honours projects.
    • Assist academic staff in the laboratory aspects of their research (e.g. tissue sectioning, Histology staining, immunohistochemistry staining etc).
    • Assist postgraduate students with technical support in laboratory techniques.
    • Act as one of the health and safety representatives for the Histology Division. Will be required to undergo periodic health and safety training.
    • Monitor the maintenance of laboratories and state of equipment therein, and report issues for attention
    • Assist with locking up and opening of the Department
