Your Role and Responsibilities

• As a Sales Specialist at ABB, you’ll be at the forefront of driving growth and delivering value in the Energy Industries sector.
• You’ll play a key role in selling our cutting-edge products, systems, and services helping customers in Power & Water and Oil & Gas industries achieve operational excellence and sustainability.
• This is a hybrid role, offering flexibility to work from ABB offices, ABB offices, remotely from home, and directly at customer sites across South Africa and the broader sub-Saharan region giving you the autonomy to manage your time and build strong relationships.

You will be mainly accountable for:

• Drive Sales Excellence: Achieve sales targets and contribute to sustainable growth in revenue, profitability, and market share.
• Build Relationships: Engage with customers to understand their needs and deliver tailored solutions that align with ABB’s value proposition.
• Explore New Opportunities: Identify and develop new market opportunities, expand ABB’s footprint in the region.
• Support Operations: Manage sales processes, support cash collection, and collaborate with project management teams to ensure seamless delivery.

Qualifications for the role

We’re looking for a driven and customer-focused professional who thrives in a dynamic, technical sales environment.

To succeed in this role, you should bring the following:

• Proven experience in driving sales and nurturing long-term customer relationships within the Energy Sector, specifically in industrial automation and electrical service offerings.
• 10 to 15 years of overall professional experience, with 5 to 10 years specifically in service sales within Industrial Automation Control Systems or Electrical Engineering services. A strong track record of consistently meeting or exceeding sales targets is essential, along with the ability to navigate complex technical environments and build lasting customer relationships.
• Strong foundational knowledge of industrial automation and electrical systems, enabling you to confidently engage in technical conversations and understand customer requirements. While in-depth expertise in ABB-specific technologies is not mandatory, a solid grasp of key concepts such as control systems, instrumentation, and electrical infrastructure is essential to effectively position solutions, communicate value, and build credibility with clients.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to clearly articulate complex technical solutions and deliver compelling value propositions to customers.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities, enabling you to understand customer challenges and propose effective, tailored solutions.
• A degree or equivalent qualification in Electrical Engineering, Automation, or a closely related technical field is preferred.
• Alternatively, candidates with a National Higher Diploma will also be considered, provided they can demonstrate industry experience and relevant certifications.
• Proficiency in English, with confidence in both verbal and written communication, is essential for effectively engaging with clients and internal teams.
• French language skills are preferred but not mandatory and would be considered a valuable asset for interacting with French-speaking stakeholders or expanding into Francophone markets.
• Valid driver’s license to support regional travel.
• Candidates should also possess a valid passport to facilitate cross-border travel within the sub-Saharan region, as needed.
• Additional certifications relevant to the role of our industry will be considered an advantage.
• Additionally, registration with relevant professional bodies such as ECSA (Engineering Council of South Africa), SAIEE (South African Institute of Electrical Engineers), or SAIMM (Southern African Institute of Mining and Metallurgy) is highly desirable, as it reflects a commitment to professional standards and continuous development within the industry.
