Shift Mechanical Fitter - (Pietermaritzburg) at Belgotex Floors

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES & OUTPUTS

• Continuously monitor the working environment responsible area and report any abnormalities found.
• Trouble shooting and rectify faults occurring due to failure of mechanical equipment.
• Plant and equipment inspection and defect reporting
• Installation of equipment
• Conduct visual inspections on the process and equipment.
• Responds immediately to equipment-related problems and installs, maintains, troubleshoots, and repairs across all equipment in the business area to ensure minimal downtime.
• Manages and schedules repairs on operating equipment in the processing and/or packaging operations, whenever possible, and remains cognisant of quality standards as product quality can be easily compromised.
• Observes and tests operation of sophisticated hydraulic, pneumatic and/or mechanical devices to evaluate, identify and resolve operating problems.
• Performs preventive maintenance on equipment and machinery to include repair/replacement of bearings, valves, actuators, sensors, gearboxes, conveyors, lubrication of parts, cleaning of filters, recalibration of controls, changing line gaskets, adjusting components and/or cleaning of equipment.
• Collaborate across a team and must be willing to learn and share skills with fellow collegues
• Maintains an organised, clean and safe work area.
• Observes all safety guidelines, company rules and regulations, and good manufacturing practices (GMPs) in the performance across outputs and deliverables.
• Ensure the proper use of all tools in the workshop.

REQUIREMENTS

• Completion of an apprentice program and passed Trade test as a Fitter or a Fitter & Turner
• 3-5 years working experience in mechanical or similar role is essential.
• Experience in Textile industry advantageous
• Experience in working with hydraulics and pneumatics is essential.
• Must have working knowledge of compressors, pumps, fans, bearings & gearboxes.
• Experienced in working at heights and in restricted spaces to access machinery and equipment components.
• Must be able to move, lift or carry heavy objects or materials.
• Strong fault-finding ability and quick response to complex mechanical problems
• Frequent standing and/or walking is essential.
• Work safely and produce quality work (Work is frequently performed in high places and near conveyors and there is frequent exposure to hot, wet, and humid conditions
• Must be able to work overtime, shifts, weekends, and public holidays.
• Observe and adhere to Health and Safety rules.

QUALIFICATIONS

• Grade 12/Matric with Maths/Maths Lit and English
• N3 Mechanical qualification is essential.
• Completed a recognised Fitter or Fitter and Turner Apprenticeship is essential.
