    Software Development Manager

    As the Software Development Manager you will be accountable for the performance and well-being of the teams. You will oversee the development process and ensure that the teams are empowered and that impediments are identified and removed in a timely manner. As a Software Development Manager you should embody the company values and seek to create a culture of continuous improvement, and you are able to identify potential leaders and coach them.

    Some of the things that you will do

    • Work with the Head of Department to enact the CTO's vision
    • Represent the company values and lead by example
    • Actively participate in the feedback loop at The Delta (observe, reach out, listen and support)
    • Support the Technical Lead and Architecture in defining The Delta Engineering standards and enforcing them across your department
    • Empower the teams and create self-sufficient units within the engineering department.

    Delivery

    • Preliminary scoping and estimation of upcoming work
    • Take ownership of both the quality and timeliness of software releases
    • Remove impediments and blockers to allow the teams to function at the peak of their potential and increase job satisfaction
    • Communicate and mitigate risks to delivery and to the greater business

    Resource planning and recruitment

    • Responsible for identifying ways to track productivity, quality and engagement across The Delta
    • Responsible for the tracking and analysis of workforce metrics (turnover rate, internal promotion rate, absenteeism) to proactively identify risks and opportunities
    • Responsible for identifying recruitment opportunities in their areas to increase coverage and fill skill gaps
    • Actively participates in the recruitment process (Technical Assessment review, screening interviews, motivations)

    What you’ll need:

    • Passionate about creating a culture of continuous improvement and building a safe space for engineers of all levels to experiment and learn
    • An excellent communicator to both internal and external parties
    • A critical thinker who can identify risks and opportunities
    • Well versed in both Agile and Lean methodologies
    • A good listener and a mentor to more junior leaders, aspiring leaders and engineers alike
    • Comfortable working in an asynchronous environment or familiar with the basics of asynchronous communication
    • Solution focused and data driven
    • Comfortable with decision making and able to communicate their vision clearly and consistently
    • Able to think strategically to reduce development overheads and increase efficiency across the department

    Experience required:

    • 4-5 years hands on experience working in a software development team
    • 2 years experience leading a Software Development Team (preferably using Agile or Lean methodology)

    Our process

    • Pre-screening (CV, LinkedIn, Portfolio, Assessment Questions, Video Intro).
    • A 30-minute call to assess skill and experience and get to know each other with a relevant team lead.
    • A face-to-face/online technical interview, possibly a whiteboard problem or take-home assignment.
    • A deeper dive culture chat with our Chief People Officer and /other team members/leads.
    • Reference checks (at least 2) and personal checks (socials, networks, etc).
    • An option of hanging out with the team (online/offline).
