Specialist Data Scientist (Contract 3 Months) at DeARX Services (Pty) Ltd

• As a Specialist Data Scientist, you will be at the heart of developing and optimising AI-powered trading models. This includes:
• Creating and refining market-making algorithms for equities and equity derivatives.
• Applying machine learning techniques (LSTMs, CNNs) for short-term price movement predictions.
• Analysing high-frequency trading data to detect trends and anomalies.
• Working with AWS infrastructure (S3, SageMaker) to support model training and deployment.
• Enhancing trading strategies by integrating new indicators and models into live environments.

Key Responsibilities:

• Conduct back testing and research to optimise existing models and build new strategies.
• Apply advanced ML techniques to time-series financial data.
• Collaborate with quant teams and developers to transition models into production.
• Ensure model robustness with proper in-sample and out-of-sample validation.
• Work with time-based and volume-based data sampling methods.

Essential Experience:

• 5 - 7 years in data analytics, machine learning, and quantitative finance.
• Exposure to trading environments, financial markets, and complex financial systems.
• Proficient in Python, SQL, and AWS (especially SageMaker and S3).
• Experience with market microstructure and equity trading algorithms.
• Minimum 2 years working with hedge funds or in a similar advanced trading environment.

Must-Have Skills:

• Python, SQL, AWS (5+ years)
• Strong knowledge of ML/AI techniques applied to financial data
• Deep understanding of global markets, equities, and derivatives
• Familiarity with tools like Azure DevOps, ServiceNow
