    Specialist: IN Telecoms

    Role Purpose/Business Unit:

    • Provide support for the Converged Charging System and other IN Telecoms systems and services
    • Provide input to solution architecture, strategy and design for the Converged Charging System and other IN Telecoms systems and services
    • Development of Application Code or scripts to help in optimising Operations and Support of the Converged Charging Environment
    • Research and investigation into latest technology to be incorporated on prepaid network to ensure stability, innovation and cost saving. This includes research into Digital Technologies like AI and Robotics
    • Provide input into product development and support of Converged Charging System and other IN Telecoms systems and services.
    • Maintain availability targets on Supported systems and services.
    • Provide support to Customer Care and Billing Counterparts
    • Ensure business continuity in place for prepaid systems and services
    • Capacity planning on Supported systems and services

    Your responsibilities will include:

    • Routine system preventative and corrective maintenance on IN Telecoms systems. Procedures are to be reviewed and amended on an on-going basis, looking for more optimal ways of carrying out these system/application checks.
    • Support of IN Telecoms systems and services, core system being the Converged Charging system
    • Provide high level support to customer care regarding customer queries on prepaid transactions performed
    • Provide high level support to junior members in the IN Telecoms team
    • Focus on system, application and database administration and optimisation. This includes all possible tasks required on supported systems. Assistance can be obtained from vendors with the aim of carrying out those tasks going forward.
    • Monitor and manage IN Telecoms service availability of 99,98%. Find effective and efficient means of ensuring this availability target is achieved. This includes proactive monitoring and detection of problems, improved means of ensuring resilience/redundancy and improved means of restoring service when interruptions to service are experienced.
    • High level and operational support.
    • Proactively monitor, manage and optimise resource/capacity utilisation
    • Event and fault management.
    • Configuration management
    • Compilation of operational manuals on all systems.
    • Compilation of statistical and fault reporting system. 
    • Controlling supplier/vendor trouble tickets.
    • System Security and Backup Administration.
    • Service Desk Administration.
    • Co-ordinate and facilitate meetings.
    • Follow ISO Quality Assurance Procedures.
    • Maintain technical library and documentation.
    • Compiling and distribution of job orders as per change management procedures.
    • Liasing with BSG, WASPS, NMC Suppliers/Vendors and other divisions within Vodacom on a daily basis.
    • Proactive involvement in projects related to architecture changes, upgrades and the implementation of new systems and services. This includes high involvement in design, testing, implementation and comprehensive monitoring once new systems and services are implemented.
    • Ensuring systems and applications are performing optimally. This includes collecting data, analysis and executing required actions.
    • Constantly look at ways of being proactive to issues that occur on system and application level
    • Investigation into support tools that will assist in operations being increasingly effective and efficient
    • Investigation into replacement systems and applications to improve performance as well as save capex and opex costs
    • Disaster recovery planning and implementation on supported systems
    • Security and SOX administration on supported systems

    The ideal candidate for this role will have:

    • Degree or Diploma in Engineering or Computer Science or equivalent tertiary qualification 
    • Rotational after hour’s standby duties and overtime        
    • Provide high level support to junior team members (office hours and after hours)
    • Must be willing to travel
    • Must be in possession of a valid driver’s license
    • Must be willing to work across INTSS departments
    • Must be willing to work irregular hours
    • Must be willing to take management delegation when required

    • 3-5 years Telecommunications experience
    • 3-5 years Prepaid/Postpaid Charging Experience (OCS/CCS)
    • 3-5 years advanced experience on Java/C/C++  based applications and UNIX related systems and applications.
    • Software Development Experience will be advantageous.
    • Experience on Digital Technologies like Big Data, AI, Robotics/Automation will be advantageous.
    • Advanced Experience in UNIX, UNIX ADMIN, and TCP/IP.
    • Advanced Experience in Database admin on Oracle and MySQL
    • Advanced Experience on the Microsoft Office package, i.e. MS Word, MS Excel and MS Power Point
