  • The University of the Western Cape is a public research university in Bellville, near Cape Town, South Africa. The university was established in 1959 by the South African apartheid government as a university for Coloured people only.

     

    Sports Coordinator

    • The University of the Western Cape (UWC) is a dynamic institution committed to excellence in teaching, learning, research, and community engagement. Sport Administration within Student Development and Support plays a pivotal role in promoting student development, leadership, wellness, transformation, and an inclusive sporting culture.
    • Applications are invited from suitably qualified and experienced individuals for the position of Sports Coordinator, who is responsible for the operational management of identified Sport Clubs.  This position will report to the  Director: Sports Administration. 

    The successful incumbent will be responsible for the following Key Performance Areas:

    Student Leadership, Mentoring and Development

    • Mentor and support student sport committees in effective club management and leadership.
    • Facilitate leadership and administrative training for student sports committees.
    • Promote transformation, inclusion, and student development through sport programmes and initiatives.
    • Support community outreach and engagement projects linked to sport.

    Sport Event and Project Coordination

    • Coordinate and support tournaments, leagues, sporting events, and related projects.
    • Assist with planning, implementation, logistics, and reporting for sporting programmes and activities.
    • Represent assigned sport codes at relevant university, provincial, and national meetings and forums.

    General Sport Administration

    • Supporting the Vision, Mission, and Values of UWC Sport at all times with appropriate annual plans and performances of competitive teams.
    • Provide administrative and operational support to assigned sports clubs.
    • Coordinate club communication, travel arrangements, fixtures, facility bookings, and correspondence.
    • Maintain effective stakeholder relationships with students, staff, federations, parents, external partners, and support structures.
    • Coordinate maintenance of sports equipment and facilities in conjunction with the Manager: Sport Services 
    • Overseeing the day-to-day functioning of the relevant Sport Clubs
    • Ensuring compliance with the relevant policies and procedures
    • Drafting the relevant reports

    Financial and Operational Administration

    • Support clubs with budgeting, procurement processes, and financial administration.
    • Ensure compliance with University policies and procedures relating to finance and procurement.
    • Maintain accurate records and supporting documentation for all transactions and projects.

    Supervision and Support of Coaches

    • Recruiting and Selection for the respective sport code
    • Monitor and support coaches to ensure alignment with University policies, standards, and expectations.
    • Address performance concerns and escalate major issues to the Director: Sport Administration where necessary.

    Minimum Requirements

    • A Bachelor’s Degree or Advanced Diploma (NQF7)
    • 3 to 5 years years’ relevant experience
    • Experience within a higher education, educational, or service-oriented environment.
    • Experience in sports administration, event coordination, and student engagement.
    • Strong administrative experience in an electronic and systems-driven environment.
    • Experience working closely with students and student leadership structures.
    • A demonstrated interest and involvement in sport.
    • A valid driver’s licence.
    • Ability to work after hours and over weekends in support of student sport activities.
    • Safeguarding certification will be advantageous.

    • Digital Acumen 

    Advantageous:

    • Experience in Aquatics Club and Swimming Pool Facility management within a higher education environment will be an advantage
