SQL Server Developer - Cape Town at Intelligent Debt Management

Job Description

The Intelligent Debt Management (IDM) Group, South Africa’s largest and multi-award-winning debt management company, has a position available for a SQL Server developer. 

The ideal applicant should possess expertise in Microsoft SQL Server development, Data Warehousing, database query optimization and data security. This role will work very closely under technical direction from the Senior Database Administrator, within the IDM Enterprise IT team.

RESPONSIBILITIES

• Work closely with the Senior DBA on Enterprise IT projects outlined by the project management office.
• Provide expert input into defining of project scopes and success criteria with the various project workgroups.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to integrate database functionality into software applications and reporting platforms.
• Understand business processes and data and be able to translate requirements into technical specifications.
• Develop solutions based on business requirements, in line with data integrity and security standards.
• Delivering requirements on time and to specification with a high level of quality.
• Design and develop data exploitation systems to deliver information to business users, e.g. dashboards and reports, sourcing data, from various sources including Microsoft SQL databases, Azure databases, PostgreSQL Databases, and data warehouses.
• Develop or optimise efficient high volume data load strategies.
• Design database architecture and create responsive operational dashboards.
• Create and optimize advanced SQL queries for efficient data retrieval, manipulation, and reporting.
• Optimise database query performance as identified and escalated by DBA and/or key business stakeholders.
• Create and deliver complex functions, SQL Server stored procedures, SSIS and triggers.
• Write complex queries for applications and business intelligence reporting.
• Create accurate and complete source to target data mappings, including all translations.
• Differentiate between data modelling techniques and apply the best solution for the problem at hand, in line with business guardrails.
• Troubleshoot technical and performance issues in line with world-class practise.
• Analyse queries, develop security protocols, and resolve problems.
• Must create/author and maintain a library of functional documentation pertaining to the scope of technology delivery.
• Power BI development, data modeling, and data visualization concepts, SQL data manipulation and DAX calculation.

EXPERIENCE & EDUCATION PERSONAL ATTRIBUTES

• Relevant tertiary qualification and/or equivalent workplace experience.
• At least 5 years of relevant experience as a SQL developer and/or report writer.
• Strong programming fundamentals at the core (ie; .NET, Python, etc.)
• Experience in programming front-end user interfaces (ie; HTML, PHP, etc.)
• Demonstrated understanding of relational database concepts and proficiency in writing complex SQL queries, functions and stored procedures specifically in MS SQL Server for applications and business intelligence reporting. PostgreSQL experience advantageous.
• Fundamental understanding of data integrity and security best practices.
• Demonstrated experience working with various data modelling techniques.
• Experience optimising database performance.
• Proven track record of query analysis, developing security protocols, and resolving problems.
• Experience working with database management and monitoring systems.
• Participation and collaborating in integrating databases with business intelligence systems.
• Experience with development best practices and track record of successfully troubleshooting technical and performance issues.

WORKING ENVIRONMENT

• This role is part of the Enterprise IT team, within the IT department.
• Hybrid work but must be based in Cape Town. Scheduled remote work in between collaboration sessions.
• Perform duties and apply expertise across on-prem, private cloud and public cloud data environments.
• Engaging with internal stakeholders, cross-team interactions with business and technical resources including 3rd parties in some cases.
• Overtime may be needed to meet deadlines or as required by project rollouts and change control etc.
