Strata Control Observer at Tharisa

• The Strata Control Observer will be responsible for inspections of working places, evaluates rock mass conditions, measures compliance to support standards, procedures and creates awareness of sub-standard conditions in order to advance a safe working environment
• Measure standard compliance accurately in the pits, tailings dams and waste rock dumps;
• Issue appropriate remedial measures for sub-standards identified;
• Generate and distribute audit reports;
• Perform on-the-job coaching of production crews;
• Update Rock Engineering databases and workplace control sheets daily;
• Perform pits/ waste rock dumps investigations and risk assessments as required and submit reports;
• Inspect highwall scaling and barring;
• The safety and efficiency of mining operations;
• Pro-active reduction in levels of rock related risk in mining operations;
• Assist Strata Control Officers in carrying out their duties to monitor rock mass behavior.
• Conduct PTO’s on related procedures and standards.
• Conduct over-inspections on safe declarations.
• Conduct over inspections on QAQC of drilling and charging on final and moving highwalls.

Requirements

Qualifications:

• Grade 12 (with Math’s and Physical Science).
• Degree or Diploma in Geology or Engineering Geology / Mining/Civil or Geotechnical Engineering (Advantageous).
• Competent A (Advantageous).
• Surface Mining Course (Advantageous).

Job specific experience:

• Minimum two-three (2-3) years’ experience in a mining environment with at least one (1) year in open cast environment.
• Computer literacy is essential.
• Valid Code B Driver’s License.
