Superintendent: Risk (Fire & Security) at Sappi

Sappi Stanger Mill requires a Superintendent: Risk (Fire & Security) to ensure the Mill’s safety, risk, fire, security and legal compliance requirements and identified, communicated and complied with.   

This role reports in to the SHEQ Manager.

The main responsibilities of this job are:

Risk Management

• Review mill-wide risks and implement appropriate measures to mitigate such risks.
• Co-ordinate emergency preparedness and response by ensuring simulations/drills take place regularly and the emergency response team is adequately equipped.
• Liaise with Municipal Fire Department and local industries.

Fire & Security

• Oversee and direct the Security Service provider.
• Manage the Fire and Emergency Department.
• Ensure adherence to relevant fire legislation.
• Co-ordinate fire equipment maintenance, inspections and replacement.
• Ensure mill wide fire audits are conducted.
• Monitors hot work permit system to ensure it complies with standard procedure.

Health & Safety Management Systems

• Maintain and ensure sustainability of the ISO450001 Health and Safety Management System.
• Co-ordinate and participate in root cause analyses and close outs.
• Audit safety management systems (planning, co-ordinating and be lead auditor).

Legal Compliance

• Ensure legal compliance to health and safety regulations.
• Co-ordinate legal compliance audits and hygiene surveys.
• Participate in investigations with relevant external stakeholders.

The ideal candidate should have:

• A tertiary qualification in Fire Technology or Safety Management (National Diploma/Degree/BTech). A Bachelors Degree is preferred. 
• First Aid Level 3 Certificate + training experience.
• Fire Fighter 1 and 2 Certificate.
• SAMTRAC.
• Minimum of 5 years’ experience in a management/senior role within the Industrial/Municipal Fire Services or within the emergency protection and fire safety field. 
• Code 10 drivers license. 
• Computer literacy is essential (Windows and MS Office).
• SAP and Isometrix literacy is preferred.
