    Tax and Regulatory Specialist

    The Opportunity

    We are looking for a Tax and Regulatory specialist. This person will be responsible for handling and maintaining the company's tax and regulatory requirements.

    Main Responsibilities

    • Preparation of the monthly VAT calculations and the submission of the VAT returns on e-filing
    • Preparation of the annual income tax calculations, and provisional income tax calculations, and the submission of the returns on e-filing
    • Completion of tax audits/reviews and submission of required information to SARS if required
    • Gathering information and explaining options for best tax practice to senior management
    • Researching tax laws and practice when required
    • Computation of annual taxes and tax planning for the following year
    • Preparation and submission, in collaboration with our external service provider, of the annual and quarterly quantitative reporting templates (QRT) to the Prudential Authority of the South African Reserve Bank
    • Will be the primary liaison between the company and our external service provider for the extraction of financial information required to calculate the SCR and MCR capital coverage ratios
    • Liaise with the Prudential Authority on an any questions raised on the quarterly and annual QRT's
    • Liaise with the external auditors on the annual QRT and ensure that the return is signed off by the external auditors within the required deadline
    • Review of actual capital levels against the internal group requirement; will provide solutions to senior management should the capital level fall below the internal group requirement
    • Implementation of appropriate financial reporting processes, from source data to prescribed regulatory / statutory reporting templates, including relevant process documentation
    • Project support on an ad hoc basis and assisting in the preparation of financial reports when needed
    • Strong collaboration with operations, claims, underwriting and group finance functions
    • Collaboration with IFRS Project and Group Tax Reporting functions

    Qualifications And Competencies

    • University degree in the field of finance or accounting
    • Minimum 5 years of working experience in a short-term insurance tax and regulatory function
    • Rich experience with accounting systems
    • Knowledge in IFRS accounting for income taxes
    • Solid understanding of local regulatory requirements
    • Strong problem solving, interpersonal and analytical skills
    • Ability to sustain high level of work output and meet very tight reporting time schedules
    • Ability to work remotely and with people across locations and time zones
    • Ability to effectively collaborate closely and coordinate information across global teams
    • You are proficient in English – verbal and written communication
