    Job Description:

    • To provide professional laboratory expertise, guidance, and advice to the delivery of undergraduate academic activities within the department. To provide support for student learning, informal and formal training and instruction, and the development of proficiency with highly specialist techniques, production methods and technology.

    Responsibilities:

    • Take responsibility for and oversee the day-to-day operation of specified facilities, liaising with Technical Manager/ HOD, and ensure the safe use of equipment and facilities.
    • Contributes critical input and instructions to students' concepts. To give and contribute to students’ formative and summative assessments and subsequently give feedback to students and lecturers as well as course coordinators.
    • Contribute to planning, development and delivery of learning activities supporting student learning and research at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels and liaising with Course Leaders and academic staff informally and formally in Course meetings.
    • Supervise undergrad and postgrad students, helping to identify and supply appropriate techniques, processes, materials, resources, and equipment to meet learning outcomes, in a Physics laboratory setting.
    • Provide formal or informal sessions to students that may include one or more demonstrations, instructions with a process/technique, and coaching with the development and proficiency of skills and techniques
    • Ensure and maintain compliance with Occupational Health and Safety procedures, maintenance, and repairs of equipment.
    • Contribute and collaborate with technical team members as required to ensure the key priorities and levels of service are met successfully.
    • Undertake continuous personal and professional development and support it for any staff through effective use of the University’s policies and procedures.

    Minimum requirements

    • Relevant Qualification (Degree/Diploma) NQF 6 with vast understanding of Physics Labs and Environment.
    • A minimum of three to five years of experience in Experimental Physics
    • Mechanical and electronic knowledge as well as basic repair of laboratory equipment.
    • Basic use of power tools and equipment

    Competencies and Behavioural Attributes:

    • Ensure and maintain compliance with Occupational Health and Safety procedures, maintenance, and repairs of equipment.
    • Contribute and collaborate with technical team members as required to ensure the key priorities and levels of service are met successfully.
    • Ability to communicate well with everyone, students and other colleagues.

    Recommendations:

    • Previous experience in Higher Education institution
    • Valid driver’s licence.

    Expectations:

    • First Aid Training Course
