    Job Description:

    • To provide professional laboratory expertise, guidance, and advice to the delivery of undergraduate academic activities within the department. To provide support for student learning, informal and formal training and instruction, and the development of proficiency with highly specialist techniques, production methods and technology.

    Responsibilities:

    • Take responsibility for and oversee the day-to-day operation of specified facilities, liaising with Technical Manager/ HOD, and ensure the safe use of equipment and facilities.
    • Contributes critical input and instructions to students' concepts. To give and contribute to students’ formative and summative assessments and subsequently give feedback to students and lecturers as well as course coordinators.
    • Contribute to planning, development and delivery of learning activities supporting student learning and research at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels and liaising with Course Leaders and academic staff informally and formally in Course meetings.
    • Supervise undergrad and postgrad students, helping to identify and supply appropriate techniques, processes, materials, resources, and equipment to meet learning outcomes, in a Physics laboratory setting.
    • Provide formal or informal sessions to students that may include one or more demonstrations, instructions with a process/technique, and coaching with the development and proficiency of skills and techniques
    • Ensure and maintain compliance with Occupational Health and Safety procedures, maintenance, and repairs of equipment.
    • Contribute and collaborate with technical team members as required to ensure the key priorities and levels of service are met successfully.
    • Undertake continuous personal and professional development and support it for any staff through effective use of the University’s policies and procedures.

    Minimum requirements

    • Relevant Qualification (Degree/Diploma) NQF 6 with vast understanding of Physics Labs and Environment.
    • A minimum of three to five years of experience in Experimental Physics
    • Mechanical and electronic knowledge as well as basic repair of laboratory equipment.
    • Basic use of power tools and equipment

    • Ensure and maintain compliance with Occupational Health and Safety procedures, maintenance, and repairs of equipment.

    Professor/Associate Professor (Faculty of Health Sciences: Department of Human Anatomy & Physiology)

    Job description

    • The Faculty of Health Sciences, University of Johannesburg, wishes to appoint an Associate Professor qualified in the field of Human Physiology.
    • The successful candidate is expected to undertake undergraduate and postgraduate teaching and research supervision; contribute to the development and review of undergraduate teaching and curricula; undertake postgraduate supervision, publish research; and, where necessary, become involved in community outreach and CPD activities, in-line with the discipline/departmental specific objectives. 

    Responsibilities:

    • Present lectures and practicals in Human Physiology to undergraduate students in the Health and Allied Health professions;
    • Assist with curriculum development, module coordination and academic administration in modules presented to undergraduate students in the Health and Allied Health professions;
    • Involvement in personal and departmental research activities;
    • Undertake Postgraduate supervision at Masters and Doctoral levels, and

    Minimum requirements

    • A Doctoral degree (NQF 10) in Human Physiology/Physiology;
    • Relevant teaching experience of Human Physiology/Physiology or its related subfields in the Higher education sector (minimum 10 years);
    • Knowledge, skills and competencies in Human Physiology. 

    Recommendations:

    • Sustained record of scholarly activities, including papers presented at national and international conferences, reviewing of journal articles and peer reviewed creative outputs (Minimum of 15 papers with a unit value of 5 in the last 5 years) generated through research in the field of Human Physiology or its related subfields.
    • Supervision and examination of masters’ and doctoral candidates in Human Physiology/Physiology.

    Associate Professor/Senior Lecturer (Faculty of Humanities: Department of Communication and Media Studies)

    Job Description:

    • The Department of Communication and Media Studies at the University of Johannesburg is seeking to appoint a senior lecturer or associate professor in the field of film, television and screen studies. We are seeking an exceptionally motivated, qualified, and well-published senior academic to contribute to, and expand, the Department’s current teaching and research interests/specialisations. We are looking for a colleague who can contribute meaningfully to our creative outputs agenda, has the interest and potential to develop innovative teaching and learning materials for our film and television modules and is able to contribute to strategic research priorities by conducting independent research in the field of communication and media more broadly. We would particularly welcome applications from those with experience of filmmaking or video content creation, in an industry context as well as candidates with practical knowledge and skills relevant to the production, distribution or exhibition of screen media.
       

    Responsibilities:

    • Evidence of instruction that demonstrates teaching practical knowledge and skills relevant to the production, distribution or exhibition of screen media, and the capability and readiness to prepare printed and online teaching materials for distance learning.
    • Experience of teaching screen media curriculum at undergraduate or postgraduate level.
    • Demonstrable expertise in creative practices and analytical techniques.
    • A track record of successful research, and publication or equivalent practice-based work (exhibitions, videos, etc.), in Film, Television, or Screen studies, commensurate with career stage.
