The SA Military Health Service MSDS at South African Department of Defence

• The Recruits will receive military training and further functional training in their first year of service. During the second year of service they will be deployed where needed and given opportunity to apply their knowledge and develop their skills.

General Requirements:

• RSA Citizen (No dual citizenship).
• 18 – 22 years of age (Gr 12).
• 18 – 26 (3 years Tertiary Qualification or N6) when reporting.
• Successfully completed Grade 12.
• Admission Point Score (APS) of 17 and above excl Life Orientation (LO).
• Have no criminal record or pending cases.
• Comply with medical fitness requirements for the appointment.
• No Visible tattoos (Legs, lower arm, neck and face).

• Patient Administration (Gr 12).
• Logistics (Gr 12).
• Human Resource (Gr 12).
• Physical Training, Sport and Recreation (PTSR) (Gr 12).
• Medical Support Operations (Gr 12 with ALL the following subjects: English Level 4,2 nd Language Level 4, Mathematics or Maths Literacy Level 3, Life Science Level 3, Physical Science or Geography Level 3).
• Health Informatics (Gr 12 with ALL the following Subjects: English Level 5, Mathematics [NO Maths Lit] Level 4, Physical Science Level 4 plus a 3 year Diploma/Degree in Information Communication Technology.
• Pest Control Operator (Gr 12 [APS of 38 and above] with All the following Subjects: English Level4, 2nd Language Level 4, Mathematics [NO Maths Lit] Level 5, Physical Science Level 4 and Life Science Level 5. APS 26).
• Chemical Biological Radiation Defence (CBRD) (Gr 12 with All the following Subjects: English Level 4, Mathematics [NO Maths Lit] Level 4, Physical Science Level 4, Life Science Level 4, any other two subjects on Level 4 plus a three year Diploma or Degree).
• Musician (Gr 12 plus a Music Practical Gr 6 or higher Certificate from a recognised institution (eg UNISA, TRINITY, ROYAL SCHOOLS).

STUDY OPPORTUNITIES:

• MBChB (Gr 12 [APS of 38 and above] with all following subjects English Level 6, Mathematics Level 6 [NO Maths Lit], Physical Science Level 6, Life Science Level 6 and any other subject on Level 5 and Level 4).
• Dental Assistant (Gr 12 with all following subjects English Level 3, Mathematics Level 2 [NO Maths Lit] and Life Science Level 2 or 18 to 22 years old completed Gr 12 with Dental Assistance Certificate and HPCSA Registration).
• Pharmacy Assistant (Gr 12 with all following subjects on Level 4: English, Mathematics [NO Maths Lit] and Life Science.
• Nursing Diploma (Gr 12 with ALL Subjects on Level 4: English, 2nd Language, Life Science, Mathematics/Literacy and at least two other subjects on Level 3).
• Auxiliary Nursing (Gr 12 with ALL the following Subjects: English Level 4, Additional Language Level 3, Life Science Level 3, Mathematics Level 2 or Maths Literacy Level 3 and at least two other subjects on Level 3).
• Emergency Care Assistant (Gr 12 with ALL the following Subjects: English Level 5, Mathematics Level 3 [NO Maths Lit], Physical Science Level 4, Life Science Level 3 and any other two subjects on Level 3).
