Toolroom Supervisor at Defy Appliances

Job Description

• The Toolroom Supervisor is responsible for overseeing and managing staff in the Toolroom which includes the Toolroom projects, Maintenance and Injection Moulding departments.
• Toolroom Supervisor will assist when required to create, modify, and optimize CNC programs to control machine tools and manufacturing processes.
• Toolroom Supervisor will be required to program CNC vertical axis milling machine, EDM wire cutter, CNC Punch Press and CNC lathe and to assist with tool designs.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

• Supervision of Artisan daily activities
• Assign Artisan to tool breakdowns and repairs
• Ensure tool repairs are completed correctly and to an adequate standard and time frame
• Supervision of new parts manufactured in department
• Programming of CNC machines and tool design for new tools and modifications
• Ensure all breakdowns are completed efficiently
• Give close out dates for problematic tooling
• Assign suitable timelines for Artisans to complete and performance manage them with the assistance of Head of Tooling and Design
• Ensure toolmaker completes job cards and file them in shared folder
• Ensure machines in department are working to the correct standard and liaise with maintenance to repair accordingly
• Perform Masakhane meetings with toolroom staff and promote strong relationship building within the team
• Run the stores and ensure stock levels are correct.
• Liaise with process departments to assist with their tooling demands with close out dates.
• Preventative maintenance and general upkeep of tooling.
• Track all items flowing through toolroom and report weekly on progress to toolroom management.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

• Matriculation with mathematics and trade advantage
• Trade test qualification in Toolmaking (Trade tested).
• Minimum 15 years’ experience in toolmaking post apprenticeship.
• Minimum 5 years’ experience as a CNC programmer (preferably using EdgeCAM).
• Minimum 5 years’ experience designing using CAD software (Inventor, Fusion 360 or NX).
• Experience in managing staff and controlling the daily activities of the toolroom.

SKILLS REQUIREMENTS

• Create programs on Edgecam software.
• Change tool designs on Inventor/ Siemens NX.
• Create programs for CNC turret punch presses on NC Express
• Good organization skills to manage and track machine and machinist efficiencies.
