- We are looking for a commercially driven, hands-on Sales Manager who can lead and grow the sales team while personally contributing to new business generation and revenue growth.
- The ideal candidate should have a strong background in sales, preferably within asset finance, equipment finance, commercial vehicle finance, plant and machinery, or a related industry.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Sales strategy, planning and execution:
- Set and keep refining the sales strategy for the company, in line with the group's commercial objectives and approved business plans.
- Break the company's growth targets down into monthly, quarterly and annual targets for the team and for each marketer.
- Maintain a written sales plan that names target industries, prospective clients, referral partners, geographic opportunities and funding channels.
- Concentrate business development on mining, construction, transport, manufacturing, aviation, agriculture and power generation, plus any other sector that fits the company's risk appetite and return requirements.
- Plan separately for internally funded deals and for deals brokered through third-party finance houses.
- Look for new revenue streams, partnerships, referral channels and markets.
- Keep a rolling sales forecast built on real opportunities, realistic deal values, expected approval dates and expected payout dates.
Sales team leadership and accountability:
- Recruit, onboard, train and develop marketers and business development staff within the approved staffing structure.
- Agree targets, activity standards and performance expectations with each team member.
- Hold regular one-on-ones and team meetings to review progress, deal with obstacles and agree corrective action.
- Track individual and team results against target: new leads, qualified opportunities, applications submitted, approvals, signed contracts and payouts.
- Pick up underperformance early and put documented improvement plans in place, with clear actions and deadlines.
- Make sure every marketer carries an active, credible pipeline and owns each opportunity from first contact through to payout.
- Handle disciplinary and performance matters in line with company policy and labour legislation.
- Build a culture where accountability, commercial discipline and results are expected of everyone.
Lead geenrationg and business development:
- Own the flow of qualified opportunities into the business.
- Run structured lead-generation initiatives: direct prospecting, industry networking, referrals, strategic partnerships, client visits and marketing campaigns.
- Expect marketers to go out and prospect for new business, not wait on inbound leads, existing clients or referrals.
- Build and maintain relationships with equipment dealers, manufacturers, auctioneers, contractors, transport operators, mining companies, brokers and other industry players.
- Set timeframes for allocating, contacting, qualifying and following up leads, and hold the team to them.
- Plan targeted campaigns and industry promotions together with Marketing.
- Review conversion rates to see which channels and activities give the best return.
- Point lead generation at clients with a genuine funding need, the capacity to repay and suitable assets or transactions.
Deal qualification, structuring and commercial oversight:
- Before a deal goes to Credit, confirm it is commercially viable, properly priced and within the company's funding mandate and risk appetite.
- Coach marketers in assessing the client's business model, funding requirement, purpose of the transaction, repayment ability, asset suitability and overall commercial rationale.
- Make sure deals are properly qualified before significant time is spent processing them.
- Oversee preliminary structuring and pricing, including fees, deposits, rental terms and repayment structures, within approved guidelines.
- Decide the funding route for each deal: funded internally or placed with an external finance house.
- Review complex or material transactions before submission so the proposal is realistic, complete and well motivated.
- Work with Credit to answer queries, improve application quality and resolve structuring issues without lowering credit standards.
- Stop sales staff from promising approvals, pricing, terms or turnaround times that have not been authorised.
- Escalate transactions that need management approval in line with the delegation of authority.
- Protect returns by making sure fees, commissions and other agreed revenue are priced in and properly recorded.
Sales pipeline and transaction conversion:
- Keep direct oversight of the whole pipeline, from lead and qualification through application, credit assessment, approval, contracting and payout.
- Make sure all leads and deals are captured and kept up to date on Monday.com or the designated CRM.
- For every transaction, know its status, owner, outstanding requirements, next action, expected completion date and any risks or delays.
- Run a pipeline review that picks out stalled deals, overdue actions, material risks and deals that need management intervention.
- Give every active opportunity a next action, an accountable person and a realistic payout date.
- Monitor conversion at each stage and act where deals are being lost or delayed.
- Work with Credit, Legal, Administration and Operations to clear bottlenecks and shorten the time from lead to payout.
- Move approved deals to signed contract and payout without unnecessary delay.
- Look into lost, declined, withdrawn and stalled deals, and apply what is learned.
- Make sure forecast revenue is backed by credible, documented opportunities.
Client relationship management and revenue growth:
- Build and maintain relationships with key clients, strategic accounts, referral partners and industry stakeholders.
- Get personally involved in significant transactions and high-value opportunities that need senior attention.
- Grow existing relationships into repeat business, further asset-finance opportunities and referrals.
- Manage client expectations professionally and keep communication consistent throughout a transaction.
- Handle escalated client concerns and coordinate with the relevant departments to resolve them promptly.
- Stay visible in the market through client meetings, site visits and industry events.
- Build relationships for the long term rather than for once-off deals.
Sale reporting, forecasting and management information:
- Give executive management accurate sales reports on time, at the agreed intervals.
Report actual performance against target, covering:
- Qualified leads generated and new opportunities opened
- Applications submitted and credit approvals obtained
- Approval-to-acceptance conversion

- Internally funded versus externally placed business

- Explain material variances between forecast and actual, and take corrective action.
- Share commercial insight with management: market feedback, competitor activity and ideas for improving sales performance.
- Report outcomes, not meetings held, calls made or leads captured.
Cross-functional coordination:
- Work with Credit, Finance, Legal, Administration, Operations and Marketing to keep transactions moving through the business.
- Make sure applications reach Credit meeting the agreed minimum information and documentation standards.
- Agree handover and communication requirements between Sales and the departments that assess, document and pay out deals.
- Work with department heads to fix recurring delays and process inefficiencies.
- Pass on accurately to the relevant teams any commitments Sales has made to clients.
- Attend management and pipeline meetings, update on material transactions and follow through on agreed actions.
- Respect the independence of Credit and the other control functions. Sales targets must never override risk-management requirements.
Group cross-selling and opportunity identification:
- Look for cross-selling opportunities across all group companies, and where appropriate use relationships built by one company to generate business for the others.
- Understand each group company's products, services, funding capabilities and target markets, so that complementary solutions can be offered to existing and prospective clients.
- Build cross-selling into the sales strategy, the client engagement process and each marketer's performance expectations.
- Set up a structured process to identify, record, allocate and track cross-selling opportunities.
- Refer opportunities to the right group company and follow them through until they are converted, declined or otherwise closed.
- Work with the relevant management teams to find opportunities arising from existing clients, prospective transactions, referral partners, asset-finance requirements, equipment sales and rental needs.
- Record each opportunity in the group's CRM or pipeline system, including the referring company, receiving company, responsible person, potential value, next action and outcome.
- Report on the number, value and conversion rate of cross-selling opportunities and the revenue they generate.

Process, compliance and sales governance:
- Comply with company policies, approved pricing structures, mandates, the delegation of authority and applicable regulatory requirements.

- Record all material client engagements and transaction developments on the designated systems.
- Prevent unauthorised commitments, misleading representations and any attempt to bypass credit and approval processes.
- Make sure referral arrangements, commissions, fees and third-party relationships are authorised and documented.
- Keep client information confidential and handle it as the applicable requirements demand.
- Spot weaknesses in sales processes and recommend practical improvements to controls, accountability and turnaround times.
Performance management and continous improvement:
- Set measurable performance standards for the sales function and review them regularly with executive management.
- Analyse the causes of underperformance, such as too little prospecting, poor lead quality, weak qualification, low conversion or slow progress on deals.
- Agree specific corrective actions with owners and completion dates.
- Identify training needs and build the team's ability to find, qualify, structure and present sound transactions.
- Review the sales incentive scheme and recommend changes that reward profitable, completed transactions rather than activity or approvals alone.
- Review sales processes, market positioning, customer feedback and competitor offerings on a regular basis.
- Feed lessons from unsuccessful deals back into future sales practice.
Personal business development and commercial contribution:
- Stay hands-on in winning new business and building strategic relationships. The role is not purely administrative.

- We are looking for a results-driven Business Development Officer with strong experience in asset finance and commercial lending to drive new business, build strategic relationships and grow the company's client base.
- The ideal candidate will be responsible for generating their own leads, managing the full deal process from prospecting to payout, identifying cross-selling opportunities and maintaining a strong sales pipeline.
Duties and Responsibilites:
Finding new business:
- Go out and find new clients in our approved markets: aviation, mining, construction, earthmoving, transport, trucking, trailers, power generation, agriculture and other sectors that make sense for asset finance.
- Look for businesses that need funding for new or used equipment, working capital tied to assets, rentals and rent-to-own deals.
- Prospect by phone, site visits, client meetings, dealer visits and networking. Also look at equipment listings, auctions and dealer contacts for deals.
- Don’t focus solely on major companies. Small and medium-sized operators, along with contractors supplying large mining and transport companies, can also offer valuable business opportunities.
- Proactively develop your own sales pipeline rather than relying solely on existing clients and referrals.
- Keep a prospect list with the next action and follow-up date for each one.
Dealers, brokers and introducers/spotters:
- Build and keep good relationships with dealers, auctioneers, brokers, suppliers and other introducers/spotters.
- Keep recruiting new referral partners who can bring in good deals regularly.
- Visit them often to hear about upcoming stock purchases, sales and clients who need funding.
- Make sure they know our products, markets, criteria and how to apply.
- Track what each source brings in: how much, how good, how many deals go through and how profitable they are.
- Continuously expand your network of introducers rather than relying on a small number of contacts.
- Ensure all referral fees and commissions are properly approved and documented.
Looking after clients:
- The BDO is the client's main contact from first meeting through to application, approval and payout.
- Get to know their business and what they'll need in future.
- Stay in touch with existing clients in order to get repeat deals and more assets to finance.
- Be honest about the process, indicative pricing, what is needed from them and how long things will take.
- Never commit to funding, approvals, pricing or turnaround times without the funder's confirmation.
- Keep clients informed when Credit need more information or when Credit has queries.
- Stay professional when a deal is declined, delayed or restructured.
- Raise problems early and escalate serious ones to management.
Cross-selling between the company and other Group companies:
- Know what the Group companies offer and who they target.
- If a client dealing with one company could use something from the other, introduce them and get the right team involved early.
- Work with colleagues across the group on joint clients.
- Record cross-sell leads in the pipeline system and follow them through until there's a result.
- Share leads quickly and treat the person who originated the relationship fairly.
- Never hold back a lead from the other company just to protect your own pipeline.
- Identify cross-selling opportunities by considering the full range of services the group can offer each client, beyond the immediate deal.
Assessing the deal before it goes to Credit:
- Understand the client's business, what equipment they need, how much funding they want and where the repayments will come from before you put a deal forward. Be able to explain why the deal makes sense.
- Assess every deal before you submit it. Know what the funding is for, the asset, the deal value, what the client is putting in and how it will be repaid.
- Get enough information to decide if the deal is worth pursuing.
- Watch for red flags: too much existing debt, arrears, bad bank conduct, weak trading, or anything affecting affordability.
- Understand the client's finances. Get management accounts, annual financial statements, bank statements and other supporting information where needed.
- Make sure the client, asset and structure fit within our approved funding parameters.
- Make sure what the client tells us is accurate and complete.
- Tell Credit about any bad news. Never play it down or hide it.
- Work with the Credit Analysts to answer their queries and improve your submissions.
- Learn from deals that are declined or withdrawn.
- Prioritise quality deals over quantity, and avoid submitting weak applications just to meet targets.
- You're responsible for the quality of the submission. Credit still makes the independent credit decision.
Documents and submission:
- Explain what is needed and collect it from the client.
- Make sure documents are accurate, complete and up to date.
- Check that the legal entity, directors, shareholders, asset details, supplier details and values are correct.
- Get the financial information needed: AFS, management accounts, bank statements, debtors and creditors, asset registers, debt breakdowns, cash-flow forecasts, contracts and personal asset and liability statements where required.
- Collect quotes, invoices, asset details, valuations and technical information where needed.
- Make sure FICA and other compliance requirements are done properly.
- Respond quickly when Credit, Compliance, Legal or Operations ask for something.
- Keep the client updated on what's outstanding and follow up until the file is complete.
- Never submit misleading, incomplete or unauthorised information.
- Keep a record of client communication, documents and what's still outstanding.
- Getting the deal to payout:
- Own the deal from first lead to final payout.
- Keep in regular contact with Credit, Operations, Legal, suppliers and anyone else involved.
- Follow up on credit decisions, conditions, quotes, contracts and documents.
- Explain the approved terms to the client correctly and make sure documents are signed and returned on time.
- Help solve any problems that could stop the deal.
- Follow up on deposits, raising fee`s, insurance, registration, security documents and other payout conditions.
- Make sure the deal goes through the normal approval and payout process.
- Never tell a supplier to release an asset, or tell a client the deal is funded, before it has been properly authorised internally.
- Stay in contact with the client and the internal teams until payout is confirmed.
- Hand everything over clearly to Operations/back office, and help with early questions after payout.
- An approval is not a sale. You must push the deal through to payout and take responsibility for any avoidable delays.
Pipeline and reporting:
- Keep the pipeline up to date in the CRM or Monday.com.
- Capture every real lead: client, source, asset, deal value, funding needed, stage and next action.
- Update it as soon as something moves, stalls, is withdrawn or is declined.
- Record the expected approval date, payout date and revenue where you can.
- Be realistic about the chance of a deal closing. Don't inflate it.
- Report regularly to the Sales Manager on new leads, meetings, applications, approvals, payouts, revenue and pipeline value.
- Explain why deals are stuck and what you're doing about it.
- Keep a record of lost deals, why we lost them and whether there's a chance to follow up later.
- Attend sales meetings, pipeline reviews and performance discussions.
Knowing the market:
- Keep an eye on equipment prices, demand, competitors, funding availability and industry news.
- Spot sectors and businesses where demand for equipment funding is growing.
- Understand the challenges our target clients face.
- Find potential clients through industry information, contractor networks, equipment listings, events and contacts.
- Give management practical feedback on the market, pricing pressure, what clients want and what competitors offer.
- Point out gaps in our products and suggest solutions that could work.
- Recommend new dealer relationships, referral partners and markets.
- Share what you learn with the Sales Manager and management
Conduct, compliance and risk:
- Act in the best interests of the group and protect its reputation.
- Follow company policy, credit procedures, FICA, the law and all compliance controls.
- Keep client and company information confidential and only share it through authorised channels.
- Never misrepresent our products, funding capacity, approval criteria or contract terms.

- A well-established company based in Melrose is seeking an astute, analytical, and commercially minded Senior Credit Analyst to join their team.
- This is an excellent opportunity for a finance professional skilled in evaluating risk, making sound lending decisions, and supporting quality credit outcomes in a dynamic environment.
Key responsibilities:
- Assess new and existing clients, including the company, directors, shareholders, related entities and sureties.
- Go through financial statements, management accounts, bank statements, tax records, debtor and creditor lists, asset registers, contracts, cashflows and existing debt.
- Look at profitability, liquidity, debt levels, working capital and whether cash flow is steady.
- Work out whether the client can afford the new facility on top of what they already owe.
- Take note of arrears, returned debit orders, bad credit records, tax debt, too much debt and other signs of trouble.
- Conduct stress testing to assess the client’s ability to withstand adverse financial scenarios, including declining sales, increased operating costs and delayed customer payments.
- Evaluate industry dynamics, key customer relationships, contractual obligations, management capabilities and trading history to determine the overall risk profile.
- Identify discrepancies, unusual transactions, inconsistencies or potentially misleading information within financial records and supporting documentation.
- Exercise independent judgement in assessing client creditworthiness and risk, ensuring that recommendations are based on a thorough, objective analysis of available information rather than relying solely on input from the marketing team.
Deal evaluation and structuring:
- Evaluate deals in construction, mining, transport, agriculture, aviation, power generation and other approved sectors.
- Check whether the deal works commercially, whether it is asset finance, rental or rent-to-own.
- Recommend deposits, terms, instalments, interest rates, fees, balloons and security.
- Check that the instalment is affordable for the client's cash flow.
- Check that supplier quotes, purchase prices, valuations, expected rental income and resale values are reasonable.
- Consider VAT, costs, commissions, funding costs and likely recovery costs when working out profit.
- Recommend ways to reduce risk, like bigger deposits, sureties, cessions of receivables, insurance and other enforceable security.
- Evaluate whether the anticipated returns justify the associated risks, investment term and capital commitment.
- Challenge proposed instalments, deposits, repayment terms and residual values where they do not adequately mitigate the company’s financial risk.
- Suggest other ways to structure a deal so it can still work within the risk appetite.
- Escalate deals that look good commercially but have a credit structure we can't accept.
Asset and security evaluation:
- Look at the asset itself: market value, condition, age, hours, specs and remaining life.
- Check that the asset suits the deal and that its value supports the amount we are funding.
- Know the difference between market value, orderly sale value and what we would really get in a forced sale.
- Consider how easy it is to resell specialised equipment like heavy construction, and mining machinery, aircraft etc.
- Take into account hours, maintenance history, obsolescence, location, transport costs, refurbishment and export restrictions.
- Check the supplier or dealer, and make sure descriptions, serial numbers, ownership details and quotes all match.
- Look out for existing liens, ownership disputes, double financing, insurance gaps and security we might not be able to enforce.
- Work with the Technical Manager or outside inspectors when we need an inspection, valuation or condition report.
- Ask for more collateral or lower our exposure when the value is uncertain or recovery looks weak.
- Always consider both whether the client can pay and what we would get back if they can't.
Credit reports and recommendations:
- Write clear, accurate credit reports for the approving authority or credit committee.
- Cover the deal, the client, financial performance, ability to pay, security, profitability and risks.
- Keep verified facts, what management told us, assumptions and open questions separate.
- Clearly communicate key risks and concerns in the main assessment, rather than relying solely on supporting schedules.
- Make a clear recommendation: approve, decline, defer or ask for more information.
- If recommending approval, state the terms, conditions precedent, security and any monitoring needed.
- Show a way to reduce each major risk and be honest about what risk is left.
- Review the junior analysts' reports and send back anything incomplete, wrong or poorly motivated.
- Present and defend recommendations at credit meetings and answer management's questions.
- Keep a record of approval conditions, policy exceptions, outstanding items and why we made the recommendation.
Independent judgement and challenging risk:
- Stay independent of sales pressure.
- Challenge forecasts that are too optimistic, revenue that isn't supported and customer contracts that haven't been verified.
- Question deals that look unaffordable, over-geared or reliant on uncertain future cash flow.
- Be more careful where the client's finances, industry or security call for it.
- Give marketers feedback on what is weak in their applications and what we need from them.
- Recommend a decline when the risk can't be reduced, no matter how attractive the deal looks.
- Escalate major risks, suspected misrepresentation, unusual related-party arrangements and conflicts of interest.
- Distinguish between applications requiring further information and those that do not meet the company’s risk appetite or lending criteria
- Make sure policy exceptions are motivated, documented and sent to the right authority.
Quality control and technical review:
- Be the first technical reviewer of the junior analysts' submissions, where delegated.
- Check that calculations, debt schedules, cash flow, affordability and terms are correct.
- Make sure all the material risks have been picked up and dealt with.
- Set consistent standards for credit reports, analysis, supporting documents and recommendations.
- Spot the same mistakes coming up in applications and give Sales feedback so they improve.
- Flag incomplete applications and follow up until the missing information is in.
- Review complex or high-value deals and help the juniors with the technical side.
- Apply credit policy the same way across analysts, business units and deal types.
- Look for ways to turn deals around faster without lowering quality.
Due diligence, compliance and documentation:
- Make sure the required checks on the client, directors, shareholders and related entities are done, as policy and the law require.
- Check that the financial information and supporting documents are complete, consistent and reliable.
- Make sure FICA, NCR and any other regulatory requirements are covered for the product, entity and deal.
- Escalate bad findings, compliance concerns, possible fraud and big discrepancies.
- Make sure the credit recommendation lists the security documents, sureties, cessions, waivers and insurance we need.
- Work with Legal and Operations so the approved conditions end up in the deal documents.
- Make sure conditions are met, or formally waived by the right person, before payout.
- Keep full records of assessments, documents, approvals and exceptions for audit and future reference.
Portfolio monitoring and early warning:
- Keep an eye on how the loan and rental book is performing, together with Finance, Collections and Operations.
- Review arrears, missed instalments, returned debit orders, broken payment arrangements and other signs a client is slipping.
- Pick out clients whose finances, trading conditions or payment behaviour point to a higher chance of default.
- Reassess our exposure when a client is in trouble, loses a key contract, takes on a lot of new debt or can't repay as well as before.
- Recommend what to do, such as closer monitoring, more security, new payment arrangements, restructuring or recovery action.
- Judge restructures on their merits. Will it really get us paid, or just delay a loss we can't avoid?
- Help assess impaired exposures, potential losses and recovery prospects when needed.
- Give Credit and Operations management clear reports on new risks and portfolio concerns.
- Look at repeat arrears and defaults to see where the original assessment, deal structure or monitoring fell short.
Credit process and Monday.com or CRM system:
- Keep credit records on Monday.com accurate and up to date.
- Make sure every application has a status, an owner, a next step and a list of what is outstanding.
- Track each deal from credit submission through assessment, approval, conditions and handover for payout.
- Record important discussions, decisions, outstanding items and conditions on the deal record.
- Watch how long applications sit at each stage and see whether the delay is with Credit, Sales, the client, Legal or someone else.
- Keep track of the pipeline, pending approvals, declined deals and deals waiting on conditions.
- Escalate stalled applications and repeat bottlenecks to the right manager.
- Help report on turnaround times, approval rates, how many deals reach payout and why deals are declined or withdrawn.
- Make sure credit files are complete enough for handover, audit, portfolio reviews and recoveries.
Mentoring junior analysts:
- Guide and support the junior credit analysts.
- Review their work and explain where their analysis, risk identification, deal structuring or report writing falls short.
- Teach them how to assess cash flow, affordability, asset values, security and whether a deal makes sense commercially.
- Encourage them to think for themselves and find the risks, not just collect information.
- Build working papers, checklists, report templates and assessment standards.
- Spot skills gaps and recommend training.
- Get them to own their assessments and back up their recommendations with evidence.
- Hold them accountable for accuracy, completeness, turnaround times and the quality of their recommendations.
Continuous improvement and management reporting:
- Look for ways to improve credit policies, procedures, assessment templates and reporting tools.
- Study approval rates, declines, defaults, recoveries and deal performance to spot trends.
- Show management the quality of the pipeline and why deals don't turn into funded deals.
- Help develop assessment criteria for mining, construction, transport, aviation and other approved industries.
- Recommend changes to risk appetite or assessment requirements based on how the portfolio performs, subject to management approval.
- Keep track of changes in the economy, interest rates, industry risks, equipment markets and client trading conditions.
- Support management's efforts to improve credit quality, turnaround times, profitability and efficiency.
- Take part in credit meetings and offer practical solutions to recurring problems.
Requirements:
- At least 5 years' experience in credit analysis, including the assessment of complex commercial transactions.
- A relevant qualification in Finance, Accounting, Economics, Risk Management or a related field.
- Strong financial analysis capabilities, including the interpretation of annual financial statements, management accounts, bank statements, cash flows, debt schedules and financial ratios.
- The ability to independently assess affordability, cash flow, existing debt, repayment capacity and the overall creditworthiness of businesses and their directors.
- Experience in asset-backed lending, equipment finance, security structures and the evaluation of asset values and recovery risks.
- Strong deal structuring capabilities, including the assessment of deposits, repayment terms, interest rates, residual values, fees, sureties and other security requirements.
- The ability to assess the commercial viability and profitability of transactions while ensuring that the return justifies the associated risk.
- Proven experience preparing comprehensive credit reports with clear recommendations, identifying key risks and proposing practical risk-mitigation measures.
- The confidence and independence to challenge assumptions, identify red flags and recommend declining transactions where the risk cannot be adequately mitigated.
- Experience reviewing credit applications and reports prepared by junior analysts, ensuring accuracy, consistency and compliance with internal credit standards.
- The ability to present and defend credit recommendations at credit committee meetings and engage constructively with management.
- Experience monitoring existing portfolios, identifying early warning signs, assessing arrears and potential defaults, and recommending appropriate interventions.
- A sound understanding of relevant compliance requirements, including FICA, applicable NCR requirements and internal credit policies.
