About this career opportunity
Our South Africa team is currently looking for a water focused Civil Engineer to join our dynamic team working on innovative and exciting infrastructure projects in Africa. You will work on a broad range of water focused infrastructure projects across Africa including water flood resilience, storm water management, water resources / supply, treatment, and reuse. You will be involved at all stages of the project cycle from strategic definition, conceptual design, detailed design and through implementation, including technical advisory and due diligence.
The role involves inter-office working and assisting with knowledge transfer between Arup colleagues across the continent. You will play a part in the ever-increasing digital transformation of our business, seeking new ways to increase our efficiency through automation and to offer new services to our clients through our integrated digital approach to design. There will be opportunities to broaden international exposure through assisting with the appraisal and delivery of water infrastructure schemes in the UK. The role involves working on a broad range of water infrastructure opportunities; some of which you may already be exposed to and other areas which may be new to you. You will need to be adaptive, and passionate to learn different software and workflows, from project to project. We are seeking a candidate who is keen to engage with Arup’s knowledge base and wide network of technical experts, and who is curious to learn about aspects outside of their normal area of expertise. This role goes beyond technical tasks and requires a water engineer who will engage with unique tasks such as a lack of data, uncertainty, climate change, biodiversity loss, combined engagement and capacity building.
At Arup, you belong to an extraordinary collective – in which we encourage individuality to thrive. Our strength comes from how we respect, share and connect our diverse experiences, perspectives and ideas.
You will have the opportunity do socially useful work that has meaning – to Arup, to your career, to our members and to the clients and communities we serve.
