- We have an amazing opportunity for a Graphics Designer Team Leader to be based in Umhlanga, Durban. Do you think you have what it takes to be our newest Purple Star?
- The successful candidate will be responsible to manage the design team in terms of team members meeting daily requirements. The successful candidate will also handle all design requirements from conception through to delivery by allocating workflow based on skill set, deadlines and priority amongst the design team. The Team Leaders will be tasked with the responsibility of overseeing a particular portfolio within the design department. This will include mentoring of designers and working closely with the Head of Creative: Design, and the design traffic coordinator. The team leaders will also be responsible for representing the Design team at meetings with clients and feeding back to the rest of the Design team.

What You’ll Do For The Brand:
- Oversee the design team.
- Oversee look and feel as well as quality for all work generated from the department.
- Liaison between designers and other departments for all design job requests as well as ensuring the brief is adequate to start the job with all information on deadlines and scope covered.
- Coordinate design work coming in with a job ticket system and allocate jobs accordingly (Traffic management).
- Create processes and systems within the department as a whole.
- Conduct team member Performance reviews.
- Identify skills gap and suggest learning and development training in the areas that require attention
- Conduct weekly team member/team Leader meetings.
- Oversee design progress against schedule, priority, brief and deadlines. Provide feedback and seek any missing information from job requestor, in order to complete the job.
- Attend and participate in campaign meetings to understand the artwork required from design team and to allocate it and brief team correctly.
- Have control measures in place to ensure that design requests are reasonable.
- Review draft designs against briefs to ensure that any small errors are corrected before sending and getting feedback from the requestor.
- Coordinate and control design submittals for requestor’s review and approval.
- Ensure that the brand guide and brand standards as well as legal requirements are adhered to at all times.
- Implement corrective measures for identified distractions or issues causing delays.
- Oversee and maintain order and standard processes of design files and stock library.
- Manage the job ticket list, providing reports on the amount of jobs processed and information on time frames to complete the various jobs.
- Assist designer on special research and technical projects. Develop interns and junior designers.
- Assign design champions in the department and maximise the various design strengths in the team.
- Checks with end-supplier the specs required for the job to be saved and ensure designers follows these specs as so it is print-ready.
- Keep up to date with design trends, training courses or webinars as well as seminars relevant to the department’s growth.

What You’ll Do For The Brand:
- To manage various workload and project tracker work sheets
- Follow up with various managers to confirm project status and requirements.
- Work with Projects and Maintenance Administrators to receive updates on their workload.
- Receive quotations from Projects Team Members and issue order numbers from the Projects Managers
- order spreadsheet or obtain order numbers from Operations should it exceed a certain amount.
- Work closely with Junior Projects and Maintenance Co-Ordinator to give support and mentorship. Receive
- updates on workload status.
- Oversee the weekly propriety work sheet.
- Ensure team members submit their weekly project workload sheets.
- When required, compile various reports for Projects and Maintenance Manager
- Weekly Reporting
- Ensure monthly expenditure sheets have been compiled.
- Follow up on progress status on all order numbers
- Book flights and accommodation as required.
- Answer the Project Managers calls if he is not in the office and assist where possible or take a message.
- Reply to emails and queries.
- Follow up on payments if necessary.
- Submitting leave through for the team if required
- Adhoc functions as required

This role reports into and will work closely with the Creative Head: Design to ensure all graphic elements deliver engaging content for our brand. This role will manage the DTP, Junior, Midweight, Senior graphic designers, Team leader/s and collaborate with the traffic, copy and video teams, delivering engaging content that meets the expectations of our customers.

What You’ll Do For The Brand:
- Manage, lead and oversee the design pod team.
- Manage the liaison between pod heads and other creative HODs to ensure collaboration on project start-up.
- Lead the brainstorming, conceptualizing, development and execution of all 360 projects, adhoc projects and all campaign requirements.
- Present creative concepts to the broader business teams and management.
- Manage the day to day creative requirements, business as usual within the design pods.
- Develop, and oversee look and feel as well as quality of all work generated from the design pod.

- Have a strong understanding and opinion on illustration, typography, layout, powerful copy and what makes a good graphic design
- Find proactive solutions for design team challenges.
- Ensure that the design files and stock library are maintained.
- Be an inspiration to the team while providing them with mentorship and career development.
- Ensure that design specs are aligned to the requirement of the job, and it is correctly print-ready.
- Keep up to date with design trends, training courses or webinars relevant to the department’s growth. Share and implement these trends where relevant.
- Be able to work late and travel when required
- Attending various company events.
- Conducting interviews for new hires to the respective design pod.
- Developing Brand Guide (CI for various entities)
