    Underground Mechanical Engineer (12 Month Contract)

    • Our client is seeking an experienced Underground Mechanical Engineer to support underground mining operations on a 12-month contract at its Mooinooi, North West operation.
    • The role is accountable for ensuring the safe, reliable, and cost-effective performance of underground mechanical equipment and infrastructure.
    • The position supports production objectives while ensuring full compliance with statutory and site-specific requirements. Our client is an integrated mining group focused on the responsible extraction and beneficiation of platinum group metals (PGMs) and chrome concentrates. The operation places safety, health, and environmental stewardship at the centre of its activities.

    Minimum Requirements:

    • BEng / BSc in Mechanical Engineering.
    • Minimum of 5 years’ underground mining experience.
    • Advantageous: GCC Mines & Works. (Mechanical)
    • Proven experience with underground mobile and fixed mechanical equipment.
    • Sound knowledge of the Mine Health and Safety Act (MHSA) and relevant regulations.
    • Experience in maintenance management, equipment reliability, and breakdown analysis.
    • Strong understanding of risk management and safe work practices.
    • Computer literacy (MS Office and maintenance management systems)
    • Medically fit for underground work.

     Roles & Responsibilities:

    • Ensure all underground mechanical installations, equipment, and maintenance activities comply with MHSA and site standards.
    • Provide mechanical engineering support to achieve safe and sustainable production targets.
    • Manage and optimise planned maintenance systems to improve equipment availability and reliability.
    • Investigate mechanical failures, conduct root cause analyses, and implement corrective actions.
    • Conduct regular underground inspections to identify risks, defects, and non-compliance.
    • Review and approve mechanical designs, standards, and technical documentation.
    • Support capital projects, equipment upgrades, and life-of-asset strategies.
    • Manage contractor performance and ensure work is executed safely and to specification.
    • Compile engineering reports, risk assessments, and performance data for management review.
    • Work closely with production, engineering, and safety teams to drive continuous improvement.
    • Promote a culture of safety, accountability, and operational discipline.

    Mechanical Engineer

    Mechanical Engineer (12 Month Contract)

    • Operating since 1997, the organisation provides comprehensive project services from inception to completion, supporting both African and international projects.
    • The company places great importance on continuous improvement, client satisfaction and maintaining high-quality standards aligned with ISO 9001:2008 requirements.
    • They are currently seeking an experienced Mechanical Engineer with 3+ years of experience working within major EPCM (Engineering, Procurement, Construction & Management) environments.
    • The successful candidate will bring strong mechanical engineering expertise to multidisciplinary projects, contributing to design development, ensuring compliance with technical standards, and supporting project delivery from concept through commissioning.
    • This role is based at the client’s office in Irene, Centurion.

    Minimum Requirements:

    • Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering (BEng/BSc) or equivalent.
    • Minimum of 3+ years’ experience working with large EPCM companies.
    • Strong understanding of mechanical design principles, engineering standards and construction processes.
    • Proficiency in mechanical engineering software (e.g., AutoCAD, SolidWorks, or similar).
    • Ability to interpret and develop technical drawings, P&IDs, mechanical layouts, and datasheets.
    • Experience working on multidisciplinary engineering projects.

    Roles & Responsibilities:

    • Support the mechanical engineering scope throughout all project phases—from concept, FEED, and detailed design through construction and commissioning.
    • Prepare mechanical engineering deliverables such as calculations, specifications, datasheets, and design reports.
    • Review vendor documentation and evaluate equipment to ensure compliance with project requirements.
    • Coordinate with other engineering disciplines to ensure alignment of technical work.
    • Provide mechanical support during procurement, fabrication, installation, and commissioning.
    • Conduct site visits, inspections, and technical assessments when required.
    • Contribute input to project schedules, cost estimates, and risk assessments.
    • Ensure all mechanical engineering work complies with relevant industry standards and internal quality requirements.
    • Maintain clear communication with stakeholders to ensure informed and timely decision-making.
    • Support continuous improvement initiatives and participate in the development of internal engineering best practices.
