    Peer Educator_Mpumalanga (Temporary)

    Purpose of the position:

    • To conduct out-reach activities in the sex worker / PWID community by providing current accurate health information, mobilisation of SWs to the mobile unit and linkage to care.

    Minimum Requirements    

    • Grade 10 
    • Peer educators should be ex or current people who have used or injected drugs as they are a ‘peer’ and have therefore experienced the context, and challenges faced by PWID/PWUD
    • Minimum 1 years’ work experience in the PWID Community or experience as a peer educator
    • Fluent in English and other African languages
    • Clear criminal record

    Duties and Responsibilities    

    • Distribution of harm reduction packs and safer sex commodities
    • Provide accurate health information to PWID/PWUD on harm reduction and safe injecting practices, HIV/AIDS, Hepatitis, TB, SRH and human rights
    • Link and or refer PWID/PWUD living with HIV or TB for treatment to the mobile nurse/ drop in centre or nearest health facility
    • Ensure HIV negative PWID/PWUD are regularly tested and are encouraged to uptake PrEP as HIV prevention method.
    • Promote psychological support, referral to social services and follow-up
    • Recruit PWID/PWUD for Opioid Substitution Therapy (OST) and complete eligibility criteria
    • Identify women who inject drugs and provide dignity packs

    Maternal and Child Health (MCH) Coordinator: OR Tambo

    Purpose of the position: 

    • The primary role of the MCH Coordinator is to coordinate maternal and child health in the district and ensure relevant support is provided to the DOH focal person responsible for MNCWH. The incumbent will collaboratively work with the DOH focal person to develop and monitor implementation of the MCWH plan.

    Minimum Requirements    

    • Bachelors’ degree/diploma in Nursing Science, health or equivalent
    • Accredited post-graduate qualification in neonatal care or advanced midwifery will be an advantage  
    • 5 years’ experience in the HIV AIDS and STI programme data as well as supervisory or management background
    • Valid registration with SANC or any other recognised registration body
    • Ability to communicate in isiXhosa and English or another South African language
    • Valid code 08 driver’s licence
    • Clear criminal record

    Duties and Responsibilities    

    • Identify training gap related to MNCWH
    • Ensure training satisfaction of all stakeholders
    • Strengthen improvement of quality clinical care for women and children
    • Effective functioning of the routine health information systems for MNCWH
    • Strengthen capacity of the health system to support quality MCH care
    • Ensure competency of clinical staff
    • Support service delivery at district hospitals and CHC level and expand the range of services to provide defined package of care
    • Support implementation of ISHP and WBOT
    • Support implementation of Adolescent and Youth friendly services (AYFS) and Youth Zones
