    Engineering Superintendent x2 - Mechanical or Electrical

    • The Engineering Superintendent is responsible for managing and overseeing all engineering operations, maintenance, and continuous improvement initiatives within the manufacturing or production facility. This role ensures that all equipment, processes, and systems are operating efficiently and safely while meeting production targets. The Engineering Superintendent plays a critical leadership role, coordinating between engineering teams, production, and other departments to ensure smooth operations and compliance with industry standards and regulations.

    Minimum Requirements

    • Inventory Management:
    • Maintain accurate records of inventory levels through:
    • Stock control (booking all transferred stock in before 14:00 daily);
    • Stock control and maintenance (no stock with less than 3 months shelf life to be retained in warehouse);
    • Tight management of CHEP pallets;
    • Conducting accurate monthly stock counts with clear variance analysis (supplemented with root cause analysis, threshold setting, documentation and continuous improvement); and
    • Stock losses to be kept at below 0.5% of inventory value.
    • Planning and Organizing:
    • Schedule and coordinate the receipt, storage, and dispatch of stock. This includes planning the layout of the warehouse for optimal space utilization. Key KPI’s include:
    • Ensuring on time and in full replenishment (100% of loads);
    • Controlling internal trucks efficiencies (clear production daily);
    • Achieve vehicle TAT of less than 3 hours (for 95% of vehicles); and
    • Achieved the standard required on loading: short loaded, incorrect loaded, breakages and damages to be managed and addressed daily according to standard.
    • Supervision of Warehouse Staff:
    • Direct and oversee the activities of warehouse team, assign tasks, monitor performance, and provide training as needed. Assist in the selection of new personnel to fill vacancies or replacements. Recommend changes to procedures and develop performance standards. Develop and implement performance guidelines. Schedules and prioritize training in accordance with the logistics plan and shift roster. Conduct employees’ Performance Development Plans and give feedback. Coach and counsel employees to ensure that agreed performance standards are met. Failing which, ensure that disciplinary action is taken. Develop and maintain shift roster, schedules and execute annual leave, Monitor and control employee attendance and manage employees’ overtime.
    • Overtime – no employee to exceed 40 hours per month; and
    • Management of team’s KPI’s.
    • Industrial Relations:
    • Initiate disciplinary action/enquiries and recommend dismissals as needed. Resolve conflicts within immediate team and facilitate conflict resolution within subordinate teams.     • With our new RCL purpose of ‘We Grow What Matters”, the key purpose of this role is to identify, plan, implement, commission, train and audit of projects of a capital, engineering, maintenance and process improvement nature for the assigned bakeries.To develop, implement and sustain performance tracking systems and practices. To identify loss areas across the manufacturing and distribution processes within the assigned bakeries and then to devise and implement projects to improve profitability.

    Minimum Requirements

    • BSc/BEng/BTech Engineering degree
    • Project Management Qual/Cert
    • General understanding/exposure to mechanical, electrical, control and instrumentation and processing technology in a bakery environment
    • Five years experience in a similar role
    • Significant maintenance/project engineering experience in bread and rolls and buns manufacturing
    • Highly proficient in bakery technology

    Duties & Responsibilities    
    Key Requirements 

    • Capital and Maintenance Projects Overview
    • Take responsibility for the identification, planning, implementation, commissioning, training and auditing of projects of a capital, engineering and maintenance nature.
    • To interpret the capital project requirements within the manufacturing and distribution strategies (5 year) and implement the required projects.
    • Generating and maintaining project milestone charts with work breakdown structure using Program Evaluation and Review Technique (PERT) and Gantt charts.
    • Compiling capital expenditure proposals
    • Profitability Improvement Projects
    •  Shared responsibility for the identification of the profitability improvement areas and full responsibility for the identification, planning, implementation, commissioning, training and auditing of projects of process improvement nature
    • Project Planning
    • Ensure capital expenditure is focused on reducing plant down- time and improving efficiencies of bakery equipment.
    • Project management
    • To maintain an annual program for all bakeries for CAPEX or Major maintenance projects whereby;
    • The scope of each project is adequately detailed in the pre-authorisation phase to obtain budgetary details for financial planning.
    • Bakery Visitation
    • Visit bakeries regularly during which audits, tracking and updates will take place.
    • Personally lead CAPEX or major maintenance project work by being at the bakery concerned.
    • Personally lead all equipment commissioning and hand-over processes at the bakery concerned.
    • Safety, Health and the Environment and Risk Management
    • Matters of Safety, Health and the Environment must receive the necessary focus and will be managed such that compliance is achieved.
    • Identify requirements for business continuity planning and risk management practices arising from use of assets across bakeries.
    • Food Safety and Quality Management System
    • All engineering work must be carried out in accordance with Good Manufacturing Practices as this will form part of the foundation element of the Food Safety and Quality Management System.
    • Financial Management
    • Budgeting and cost control of CAPEX and major maintenance projects.
    • Contract Management
    • A series of key contracts will be managed through the proper use of written and approved contracts with service level agreements for fixed periods.
