    Chemist

    Job Description

    PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

    • The Chemist will be responsible for all analysis of samples in the most accurate and productive way and timely as per relevant Test Method Instruction, assist the Section Manager in ensuring compliance with the SGS Laboratory Quality Manual as well as Health and Safety Procedures.

    SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES

    Technical

    • Analyzing of all analytical samples for specific analysis using the correct procedures and / or methods.
    • Technical accuracy of results is monitored and remedial action is taken when necessary and data is recorded(Evaluation of analytical results)
    • Update internal findings, improvement request and keep minutes of internal meetings
    • Reports are generated detailing analytical results, and can include opinions and interpretations
    • Verifying of instruments.
    • Assist with the maintenance of instruments and apparatus.
    • Must have workable knowledge to calibrate and perform minor maintenance of laboratory and preparation equipment.
    • Diagnose all suspect results and assist in rectifying the problem whether it is equipment or analytical.
    • Responsible for reporting opinions and interpretations as per SGS High Level Quality Procedure

    Administration

    • Calculate test results as per standard format and / or procedures.
    • Report results within the time frame specified.
    • Report any apparatus or equipment which, to your knowledge, is not functioning correctly to the Section Manager.
    • Calculate all test results in a standard format as per relevant Test Method Instruction for each workstation.
    • Transfer data from the instrument to LIMS
    • All analytical data and calculations shall be made traceable and stored in the relevant files for that purpose or LIMS.
    • Recording and filing of all equipment records for Quality purposes.
    • Sample disposal
    • Verify test results against control samples and charts.
    • Re-analyze analysis samples when control results are not within the control charts limits.

    General

    • Assist with changing of gas cylinders.
    • Overseeing the cleaning of the laboratory and immediate working area.
    • Ensure that quality procedures are complied with.
    • Ensure compliance with the Laboratory Health and Safety Act.
    • Perform duties on all relevant workstations as required by the shift workload.
    • Must be willing to work overtime whenever necessary.
    • Assist on any lower or above level when necessary.
    • Supervisor skills and computer literacy would be advantages.
    • Assist with the training of new staff / operators on new methods and / or procedures.

    COMPLIANCE & AUTHORITY  

    • Compliant to all SGS QH&S and HR Policies and Procedure
    • Responsible for daily safety and health of site employees (or those reporting to this site) on behalf of SGS upper management and for raising issues to SGS upper management where required
    • Ensure all people at the site are adequately inducted in safety and health for each area they are expected to work in
    • Ensuring safety and health inductions are carried out, documented and are relevant to the workplace
    • Ensuring all safety and health information, materials and resources are disseminated throughout the workforce as required.
    • Ensure all people at the site (or reporting to the site) have the skills, knowledge and ability required to undertake their work safely
    • Ensuring the whole site is kept up to a good standard of housekeeping at all times
    • Ensuring emergency plans are in place and practiced at regular intervals and that all emergency equipment is in place and is ready for use at any time
    • Responsible for the site’s performance in terms of injuries, illnesses, near misses and incidents
    • As far as able, prevent injury, manage injuries and facilitate early return to work programs at the workplace.

    Qualifications

    Education

    • Minimum BSc or N Diploma in Chemistry.

    Experience

    • On the job training will be provided as well as formal training.
    • At least two years laboratory experience with a Diploma or 5 years laboratory experience, preferably in a testing laboratory environment.
    • Computer Literate in LIMS, Word and Excel.

    Job Description

    MAIN PURPOSE OF THE JOB

    • To provide a reliable and courteous transportation service with safety as a top priority.

    RESPONISIBILITIES

    • Perform various tasks relating to the transportation of passengers and/or equipment.
    • Perform deliveries as and when required.
    • Operate and maintain vehicle and records
    • Adhere to all quality and safety requirements of the SGS management system.

    • Ensure that the vehicle and/or trailer is not damaged in any way before using said assets and meets the legal requirements

    Trade Centre Analyst (Africa Product Conformity Assessment Analyst)

    Job Description

    Primary Responsibilities

    • The Trade Centre Analyst will be responsible for interacting with key accounts to ensure high customer satisfaction and service quality. Processing of inspection requests. Serving as liaison between SGS and client, providing / addressing all client needs. Ensuring Certificate of Conformity Issuance as per country standards

    Specific Responsibilities

    • Ensuring Service Request registration and, when applicable, creating hard files with relevant documents.
    • Validating external parties in countries under their administration when file is processed in Operations system.
    • Reviewing accuracy and completeness of Requests for Inspections.
    • Transmitting all the relevant documents pertaining to respective contractual requirements to Certification Center for processing.
    • Receiving necessary Conformity Assessment Instructions from Certification Center
    • Requesting exporters and or producers the quality and transaction documents instructed by Certification Center.
    • When applicable, monitoring of inspection execution, sampling, testing, eTrade Centre.
    • Generating Doc-It requests and follow up with exporter for payment. Registration of payment.
    • Contacting with trade for resolution of discrepancies, requests for additional information.
    • Monitoring and resolving Blocking Actions under Trade Centre/SA role and follow-up with the trade for capturing of missing information for Certificate of Conformity processing, ensuring timeliness of certificate issuance.
    • When applicable, printing out Certificate of Conformity in Security paper and delivering to client.
    • Ensuring that amendments of Certificate of Conformity are duly approved and corrected.
    • Follow up with Liaison Office / Exporter for acceptance from importer / authorities of importing country in case of discrepancies observed during certification process.
    • Ensuring that proper Certificate of Conformity replacement procedure is followed when exporter reports Certificate of Conformity loss.
    • Complying with Quality Management System procedures, Country Instructions and other relevant instructions.
    • Assist in the maintenance of the Quality Management System.
    • Handle day to day operations in a timely, complete and proper manner
    • Ensure orders are entered and managed using the group sanctioned systems
    • Manage all documents and client communication using Group sanctioned tools
